Arberia Parish
The Arberia Parish ( it, Parrocchia ortodossa arbëresh del Patriarcato di Mosca) is an Eastern Orthodox Christian parish subordinated to the Russian Orthodox Church (Patriarchate of Moscow). It serves the minority Orthodox Christian community of the Arberesh people of Italy, who are predominantly adherents of the Italo-Albanian Greek Catholic Church. Eastern Orthodox Christian
Eastern Orthodoxy, also known as Eastern Orthodox Christianity, is one of the three main branches of Chalcedonian Christianity, alongside Catholicism and Protestantism. Like the Pentarchy of the first millennium, the mainstream (or "canonical") Eastern Orthodox Church is organised into autocephalous churches independent from each other. In the 21st century, the number of mainstream autocephalous churches is seventeen; there also exist autocephalous churches unrecognized by those mainstream ones. Autocephalous churches choose their own primate. Italo-Albanian Greek Catholic Church
The Italo-Albanian Catholic Church ( la, Ecclesia Catholica Italo-Albanica; it, Chiesa Cattolica Italo-Albanese; sq, Kisha Katolike-Bizantine Arbëreshë), Italo-Albanian Byzantine-Catholic Church or Italo-Albanian Church, is one of the 23 Eastern Catholic Churches which, together with the Latin Church, compose the Catholic Church. It is a particular church that is autonomous ''(sui juris)'', using the Byzantine Rite. Acquaformosa
Acquaformosa ( aae, Firmosa) is a town and ''comune'' in the province of Cosenza in the Calabria region of Italy. Since the Middle Ages it is home to an Arbëresh minority, which is reflected in the presence of Skanderbeg's heraldic eagle in the comune's coat of arms. The town is also the seat of the Arberesh Orthodox Church. History The town of Acquaformosa was originally the site of the Monastery Santa Maria di Sambucina di Luzzi, founded in 1195, and populated by a handful of Catholic monks. In 1501, 15 families totaling 22 people arrived from Albania. The families, led by Martino Capparelli, Pellegrino Capo and Giorgio Córtese, fled their home country to escape persecution from conquering Muslims from the Ottoman Empire.
