Aravan, Kyrgyzstan
Aravan is a large village in the Fergana Valley, in Aravan District of Osh Region, Kyrgyzstan, Central Asia about 25 km west of Osh, on the river Aravansay. It is the administrative seat of Aravan District. Its population was 32,917 in 2021, of which 21,818 in Yusupov rural community and 11,099 in Allya Anarov rural community. Located on the Silk Road. Nearby are the Celestial Horses of Aravan, carved on a cliff face perhaps in the 1st century BC. They are thought to represent the 'blood-sweating horses' sought by the Chinese of the Han Dynasty. The petroglyphs have an important role in regional folklore and have become a pilgrimage site for Muslims in the Fergana Valley. There is a Sufi shrine. The Chil-Ustun cave system is 4 km away in the hills above the river Aravansay. There is a similar cave system 20 km away. Neither is easily accessible. Aravan District
Aravan ( ky, Араван району) is a district of Osh Region in south-western Kyrgyzstan. The administrative seat lies at Aravan. Its area is (making it the smallest district in Osh Region), and its resident population was 137,721 in 2021. Geography The district lies in the south-east part of the Fergana Valley. It borders with the Chil'-Ustun Range in the north-east, and with the Keklik-Too mountains in the east. In the south, the district is occupied by the Jalgyz-Archa and the Ulu-Too mountains. In the west, it borders with Kerkidon reservoir. In the north, the topography of the area is flat, and in the south it rises, changing to hilly terrain. The difference in absolute elevations from north to south is 500-750 meters. Demographics As of 2009, Aravan District contained 48 villages. The Aravansay ( ky, Аравансай, uz, Aravonsoy) is a river in Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. Its source is in the Kichi-Alay range, part of the Alay Range, and it discharges into the Shahrixonsoy, one of the canals of the Fergana Valley. The river is long, and the watershed covers . In its upper course, it is called ''Gezart'', in its middle course ''Chilisay''. Its largest tributaries are the Kyrgyzata, Koschan, Agart and Akdöbö.
