Árni Gautur Arason
Árni Gautur Arason (born 7 May 1975 in Reykjavík) is an Icelandic former football goalkeeper. Árni is also an educated lawyer from the University of Iceland. Club career He played for Rosenborg between January 1998 and December 2003, also making several UEFA Champions League appearances for the club. After leaving Rosenborg, he had a brief spell at Manchester City in the spring of 2004, serving as understudy to David James, but only made two FA Cup appearances for the club. In the first of these, against Tottenham at White Hart Lane, City found themselves 3–0 down at half time after an abject first half performance, and down to 10 men after Joey Barton had been sent off at the half time whistle. Guðmundur Arason
Guðmundur Arason (1161 – March 16, 1237; Modern Icelandic: ; Old Norse: ) was an influential 12th and 13th century Icelandic saintly bishop who took part in increasing the powers of the Catholic Church in medieval Iceland. His story is recorded in several manuscripts, most notably '' Prestssaga Guðmundar góða''. He is often referred to as ''Guðmundur góði'' (M.I.: ; O.N.: ; Guðmundr or Gudmund the Good). Life Guðmundur was born an illegitimate child in 1161, in Grjótá in Hörgárdalur, Iceland. He was ordained as priest in 1185 at the age of 24. A decade later, he had become one of the most influential clergymen in the Icelandic commonwealth, culminating in his election as bishop of Hólar (the northern one of the two Icelandic bishop seats) in 1203. He served for some time as house priest to Kolbeinn Tumason, an Icelandic chieftain. Helgi Þór Arason (born December 12, 1986, in Reykjavík, Iceland), rose to popularity after competing in '' Idol Stjörnuleit 2'', the Icelandic version of ''Pop Idol''. Biography Helgi Þór Arason is the son of Guðmundína Sturludóttir and Ari Már Pálsson. He was born in the capital, Reykjavík, but grew up in the Westfjordtown of Ísafjörður, a small northern fishing village in Iceland. At the age of 17, Helgi moved back to his birthplace of Reykjavík to participate in ''Idol Stjörnuleit''. After the competition he became the host of the popular dating game show ''Djúpa Laugin'' in 2005. Later the same year, a new Icelandic pop group was founded by the name of " Heitar Lummur" where he was one of the four former Pop Idol singers forming the group. Jón Arason
Jón Arason (1484 – November 7, 1550) was an Icelandic Roman Catholic bishop and poet, who was executed in his struggle against the imposition of the Protestant Reformation in Iceland. Background Jón Arason was born in Gryta, educated at Munkaþverá, the Benedictine abbey of Iceland, and was ordained a Catholic priest about 1504. Having attracted the notice of Gottskálk Nikulásson bishop of Hólar, he was sent on two missions to Norway. When Gottskálk died in 1520, Jón Arason was chosen as his successor in the episcopal see of Hólar, but he was not officially ordained until 1524. The other Icelandic bishop, Ögmundur Pálsson of Skálholt, had strongly opposed Jón and even attempted to arrest him in 1522, but Jón managed to escape Iceland on a German ship. The two bishops were eventually reconciled in 1525. Bishop Ögmundur later opposed the imposition of Lutheranism to Iceland, but being old and blind by that time his opposition was ineffective.
