Aranjuez River
The Aranjuez () is a river in Costa Rica that has its source in the mountains and crosses the Guatusos province of Puntarenas. Its basin is about in area. It empties into the Gulf of Nicoya, in the Pacific Ocean. It takes its name from the ancient city of Aranjuez, which existed in the late 16th century. Puntarenas
Puntarenas () is a city in the Puntarenas (canton), Puntarenas canton of Puntarenas Province, on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica. As the seat of the Municipality of Puntarenas canton, it is awarded the title of city, which is made from the Puntarenas District, Puntarenas, Chacarita District, Chacarita and El Roble District, El Roble districts. And as the city of the first canton of the province, it is the capital city of the Puntarenas Province as well, according to the Administrative divisions of Costa Rica. Toponymy The Puntarenas name comes from the portmanteau of Punta and Arenas, which means Point and Sands, respectively. Therefore, in English the name would mean "Sand Point". Aranjuez (Costa Rica)
Aranjuez was a Costa Rican settlement founded in 1568 by the Governor Pero Afán de Ribera y Gómez. It was situated on the banks of the Aranjuez River and was a short distance from the Pacific Ocean coast where a pier, known as the Ribera port, simultaneously emerged. Aranjuez was depopulated in 1574 by order of the interim governor Alonso Anguciana de Gamboa, who relocated the population to the town of Espiritu Santo which he founded. A pitaya () or pitahaya () is the fruit of several different cactus species indigenous to the Americas. Pitaya usually refers to fruit of the genus ''Stenocereus'', while pitahaya or dragon fruit refers to fruit of the genus ''Selenicereus'' (formerly ''Hylocereus''), both in the family Cactaceae.
