Aran (known as Kuybishev until 1999) is a village and municipality in the Aghjabadi Rayon of Azerbaijan. It has a population of 1,655. History The village used to be named Kuybışev (English transliteration: Kuybishev) in honor of Valerian Kuybyshev, a Bolshevik revolutionary and Soviet politician. On 1999-10-05, it was renamed Aran. Administrative Divisions Of Azerbaijan
Azerbaijan is administratively divided into 66 districts () and 11 cities () that are subordinate to the Republic. Out of these, 7 districts and 1 city is located within the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. The districts are further divided into municipalities (). Additionally, the districts of Azerbaijan are grouped into 14 Economic Regions (). Aghjabadi Rayon
Aghjabadi District ( az, Ağcabədi rayonu) is one of the 66 districts of Azerbaijan. It is located in the centre of the country and belongs to the Aran Economic Region. The district borders the districts of Khojavend, Agdam, Barda, Zardab, Beylagan, and Fuzuli. Its capital and largest city is Aghjabadi. As of 2020, the district had a population of 136,800. History Aghjabadi District was established on 8 August 1930. It was abolished and attached to the Agdam District in 1963. Two years later, it was re-established as an independent district. "Aghjabadi" means "large settlement" ("aghja" – large, "badi" – residence, settlement) in Azerbaijani. The ancient monuments discovered on the territory of Aghjabadi rayon attest to human habitation dating to the Eneolithic, Bronze Age periods. Valerian Vladimirovich Kuybyshev (russian: Валериа́н Влади́мирович Ку́йбышев; – 25 January 1935) was a Russian revolutionary, Red Army officer, and prominent Soviet politician. Biography Early years Born in Omsk in Siberia on , Kuybyshev studied at the , a Cadet Corps in Omsk. He joined the Bolshevik faction of the Russian Social Democratic Labour Party in 1904. The following year, he entered the Imperial Military-medical Academy in Saint Petersburg, but was expelled in 1906 for controversial political activities. Revolutionary career Between 1906 and 1914 Kuybyshev carried out subversive activities for the Bolsheviks throughout the Russian Empire, for which he was exiled to Narym in Siberia.
