Aramotu
''Aramotu'' is a 2010 Nigerian drama film directed by Niji Akanni. It stars Idiat Sobande, Kayode Odumosu and Gabriel Afolayan. It received 7 nominations at the 7th Africa Movie Academy Awards and won the awards for Best Nigerian Film and Best Costume Design. Plot Set in 1909, the film tells a story of a wealthy female trader, Aramotu ( Idiat Sobande) in an extremely culture-conscious yoruba community. She tries to use the congenial qualities of the Gelede Cult in getting ideas on women's rights and establishing a government centered on the needs of the people. She formed a clan that includes a singer (Gabriel Afolayan) which eventually breaks up her marriage with her kindhearted husband (Kayode Odumosu). This new relationship threatens to kill everything she has built and affects her relationship with other community leaders negatively. Idiat Shobande, sometimes written as Idiat Sobande is a Nigerian actress, who acts in Yoruba language films. In 2011, she received Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role nomination for her role as the title character in the Yoruba women advocacy film, ''Aramotu''. Niji Akanni
Niji Akanni is a Nigerian dramatist, screenwriter, director, producer and filmmaker. Education Akanni received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Dramatic Arts from Obafemi Awolowo University and a master's degree in Film Studies from the University of Ibadan as well as a professional master's degree (MFA) in Screenplay Writing and Film Directing from the Film and Television Institute of India. Career He has scripted, co-scripted and directed several notable Nigerian films and reality shows. Bisi Komolafe (1986–2012) was a Nigerian actress, film director and producer best known for her role in the movies ''Igboro Ti Daru'' and ''Aramotu''.
