Araeoncus Altissimus
''Araeoncus'' is a genus of dwarf spiders that was first described by Eugène Louis Simon in 1884. They closely resemble members of ''Diplocephalus''; both genera have a uniquely shaped of the cephalothorax and a species-specific modification of the tibial apophysis of the pedipalp. Species it contains thirty-nine species: *'' Araeoncus altissimus'' Simon, 1884 – France, Italy, Azerbaijan *''Araeoncus anguineus'' (L. Koch, 1869) – Europe *'' Araeoncus banias'' Tanasevitch, 2013 – Israel *''Araeoncus caucasicus'' Tanasevitch, 1987 – Ukraine, Caucasus, Iran, Central Asia *''Araeoncus clavatus'' Tanasevitch, 1987 – Turkey, Armenia *''Araeoncus clivifrons'' Deltshev, 1987 – Bulgaria *''Araeoncus convexus'' Tullgren, 1955 – Sweden, Estonia *''Araeoncus crassiceps'' ( Westring, 1861) – Europe, Russia (Europe to South Siberia) *''Araeoncus curvatus'' Tullgren, 1955 – Sweden, Estonia *''Araeoncus cypriacus'' Tanasevitch, 2011 – Cyprus *''Araeoncus discedens'' (Si ...

Eugène Simon
Eugène Louis Simon (; 30 April 1848 – 17 November 1924) was a French naturalist who worked particularly on insects and spiders, but also on birds and plants. He is by far the most prolific spider taxonomist in history, describing over 4,000 species. Work on spiders His most significant work was ''Histoire Naturelle des Araignées'' (1892–1903), an encyclopedic treatment of the spider genera of the world. It was published in two volumes of more than 1000 pages each, and the same number of drawings by Simon. Working at the Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle in Paris, it took Simon 11 years to complete, while working at the same time on devising a taxonomic scheme that embraced the known taxa. Simon described a total of 4,650 species, and as of 2013 about 3,790 species are still considered valid. The International Society of Arachnology offers a Simon Award recognising lifetime achievement. The Eocene fossil spider species '' Cenotextricella simoni'' was named in his ...

Carl Friedrich Roewer
Carl Friedrich Roewer (12 October 1881, in Neustrelitz – 17 June 1963) was a German arachnologist. He concentrated on harvestmen, where he described almost a third (2,260) of today's known species, but also almost 700 taxa of spiders and numerous Solifugae. He joined the Nazi Party in the 1930s. From 1933 on, he was the second director of the Übersee-Museum in Bremen, Germany. Under his direction the museum intensified its advocacy of scientific racism. The Senckenbergische Naturforschende Gesellschaft bought his extensive collection (including type material from other arachnologists such as L. Koch, Eugène Simon, Thorell, Philipp Bertkau and Friedrich Dahl) and his private library.Senckenberg forschungsinstitut und naturmuseumArachnology Some of his specimens are also in the Museum für Naturkunde The Natural History Museum (german: Museum für Naturkunde) is a natural history museum located in Berlin, Germany. Lodovico Di Caporiacco
Ludovico di Caporiacco (22 January 1900, in Udine – 18 July 1951, in Parma) was an Italian arachnologist. Caporiacco took part in an expedition to the Jebel Uweinat, a mountain massif in the boundary region of Sudan, Libya, and Egypt. On the mission, he, together with Hungarian explorer László Almásy, discovered the prehistoric rock paintings of Ain Doua in 1933. In 1943 he was appointed professor of zoology to the faculty of sciences at the University of Parma. He was the author of numerous scientific papers on arachnids native to Italy and other Mediterranean regions. He also published articles on species found in East Africa, Central Asia (Himalayas The Himalayas, or Himalaya (; ; ), is a mountain range in Asia, separating the plains of the Indian subcontinent from the Tibetan Plateau. Niklas Westring
Niklas Westring (13 November 1797, in Gothenburg – 28 January 1882) was a Swedish entomologist and arachnologist. He started out with the intention to study medicine but this was frustrated by the death of his father. His full-time profession from 1816 was as a customs officer in Gothenburg, where he was customs administrator from 1834 to 1856. When he retired he spent most of his time working on natural history, especially from 1840 to 1862, during which time he also became a conservator at the Göteborg Natural History Museum. He is best known for his book ''Araneae suecicae descriptae'' in 1862 in which he described 308 species of spider found in Sweden. Of these, 124 had already been described by Carl Linnaeus, Charles De Geer and Carl Jakob Sundevall. He appears to have been something of a mentor to Tamerlan Thorell who lived in Gothernborg until he went to university at Uppsala and was familiar with Westring's collection of spiders and how to identify them since he had be ...
