Aracruz, Espírito Santo
Aracruz is a municipality at the central coast of Espírito Santo, Brazil. Location Aracruz covers , and has a population of 103,101 with a population density of 66 inhabitants per square kilometer. The municipality contains part of the Comboios Biological Reserve, a fully protected area. The Santa Cruz Wildlife Refuge created in 2010 extends offshore from the municipality. The coastline of the municipality is also protected in part by the Costa das Algas Environmental Protection Area, created in 2010. History The municipality's history begins in 1556, when two Jesuit priests (Braz Lourenço and Diogo Jácomo) founded Santa Cruz, a town then called Aldeia Nova (''New Village''). Aldeia Nova later became known as Aldeia Velha (Old Village), since it didn't prosper as much as its neighbour, which then became known as Aldeia Nova, and is today called Nova Almeida. Nova Almeida, ES, Brazil
Nova Almeida is a neighbourhood (''bairro'' in Portuguese) in the municipality of Serra, in the State of Espírito Santo, Brazil. The town is located about north of the state capital, Vitória. It has a population of around 266,800. History Nova Almeida was founded in 1556 by Jesuit priests who wanted to spread the Christian faith amongst native Amerindians. First founded under the name "Reis Magos" (now the name of the river at whose mouth it rests), it was then known as "Aldeia Nova" (taking that name from neighbouring Aldeia Nova, which today is Santa Cruz). It later changed to its current name, Nova Almeida. Around 1760, there were about 3000 Tupiniquim Amerindians living here, forming the bulk of Nova Almeida's population. Aracruz School Shootings
The Aracruz school shootings were a Spree killer, shooting spree that occurred on November 25, 2022, at two schools in Aracruz, Espírito Santo, Brazil. Four people were killed, and 12 others were injured. The suspect, a 16-year-old former student at one of the schools, was arrested approximately four hours later. Shootings The shootings began at around 9:30 a.m. and occurred at two schools located on the same street. The gunman, who wore camouflaged clothing, an armband with a swastika, a skull mask, and a w:bucket hat, bucket hat, broke into the Primo Bitti Elementary and Middle School, a public school serving elementary and middle school students, after destroying a lock.
