''Aquostic – Stripped Bare'' is the thirty-first studio album by English rock band Status Quo, first released on 17 October 2014. Produced by Mike Paxman, this is the band's first completely acoustic album and the first recorded with drummer Leon Cave. Its cover features a photograph by Canadian singer Bryan Adams. Status Quo (band)
Status Quo are a British rock band. The group originated in London and was founded in 1962 by Francis Rossi and Alan Lancaster while they were still schoolboys. After a number of name and lineup changes, which included the introduction of John Coghlan (drummer), John Coghlan in 1963 and Rick Parfitt in 1967, the band became The Status Quo in 1967 and Status Quo in 1969. As of 2022, the group have been active for 60 consecutive years (despite announcing a breakup in 1984, they played Live Aid the following year and resumed normal activities in 1986). They have had over 60 chart hits in the UK – more than any other band – including "Pictures of Matchstick Men" (their first charting song), "Caroline (Status Quo song), Caroline" (their first top 5 hit), and "Down Down" (their only No. 1 hit). ''Quo'' is the seventh studio album by the English rock band Status Quo. Issued in May 1974, it reached #2 in the UK. Like its predecessor '' Hello!'', it consisted entirely of songs written or co-written by the group. The album features guest musicians Bob Young and Tom Parker, who played harmonica and piano respectively on "Break the Rules". The album is regarded as one of their heaviest, possibly due to the influence of bassist Alan Lancaster, who co-wrote six of the eight tracks. "When we wrote 'Drifting Away'," recalled Rick Parfitt, "it sounded so, so heavy. That rhythm was constant, right in your face. It was just such a turn-on. That's where my head was at back then. You know: just let it fucking rock." The UK LP contained a gatefold insert with a picture of the band playing live on one side, and the lyrics on the other. John Coghlan (drummer)
John Robert Coghlan (born 19 September 1946) is an English musician, best known as the original drummer of the rock band Status Quo (band), Status Quo. Early life The son of a Glasgow-born father and a London-born half-French mother, Coghlan grew up in Dulwich and was educated at Kingsdale Foundation School, Kingsdale Comprehensive School. He left school at 15 to begin an apprenticeship as a mechanic. He attended drumming tuition under Lloyd Ryan, who also taught Phil Collins the drum rudiments. Status Quo John Coghlan joined Status Quo, then called The Paladins (later The Spectres), in early 1962 after a meeting with bassist Alan Lancaster, guitarist Francis Rossi and keyboard player Jess Jaworski. ''Hello!'' is the sixth studio album by the British rock band Status Quo. Released in September 1973, it was the first of four Status Quo albums to top the UK Albums Chart. Keyboard player Andy Bown and saxophonists Stewart Blandamer and Steve Farr played on "Blue Eyed Lady". This was Bown's first appearance on a Status Quo album; he guested on several subsequent releases, and became an official member of the band in 1981. Blandamer and Farr also played on "Forty Five Hundred Times", which featured piano by John Mealing. Alan Lancaster
Alan Charles Lancaster (7 February 1949 – 26 September 2021) was an English musician, best known as a founding member and bassist of the rock band Status Quo, playing with the band from 1967 to 1985, with brief reunions in 2013 and 2014. As well as contributing to songwriting, he was also one of the lead vocalists on albums and live concerts, taking the lead on tracks such as "Backwater", "Is There a Better Way", "Bye Bye Johnny", "High Flyer" and " Roadhouse Blues". Alan Lancaster formed the group in 1962 with his then-schoolmate Francis Rossi. His final performance as a full-time member of Status Quo was at Wembley Stadium on 13 July 1985 for the opening of Live Aid. ''Dog of Two Head'' is the fourth studio album by the English rock band Status Quo, released by Pye Records in November 1971. Background Following the departure of Roy Lynes, this was the first album to feature the four-piece lineup of remaining members Francis Rossi (credited on the sleeve as ''Mike Rossi''), Rick Parfitt (credited as ''Ritchie Parfitt''), Alan Lancaster and John Coghlan (credited as ''John Coughlan''). They had released a non-album single that March, a Rossi/Young song called "Tune to the Music", but it was not a hit. The band then set to work writing and recording a new album. Bob Young (musician)
Robert Keith Young (born 16 May 1945) is an English musician and author, who became famous for being the unofficial fifth member of the rock band Status Quo. Collaborations with Status Quo From the mid-1960s onwards, Young has been working in the music business, starting as a crew member for Amen Corner, The Nice and also for The Herd. Based on this experience he was hired by the management of Status Quo, after they had their first hit with "Pictures of Matchstick Men" in 1968. Since he spent a lot of time with the band while being on tour, he got involved with their music as well. As early as 1969 he started writing songs for the band. On Status Quo's single "The Price of Love" he could be heard on harmonica for the first time, making him an unofficial member of the group. In the following years he wrote a number of songs for Status Quo, usually together with lead guitarist and singer Francis Rossi. Carl Groszman
Carl Arnold Groszmann was an Australian songwriter and musician. Also performing as 'Carl Keats', he was the guitarist in the 1960s Australian group Steve & the Board, which included Steve Kipner and Colin Petersen. Groszmann was studying law in Brisbane when he joined Steve & the Board, and became the group's primary songwriter. The group moved from Brisbane to Sydney, and then Melbourne. After the break-up of Steve & the Board in 1967 in Australia, several members including Groszmann relocated to London. Groszmann eventually joined Kipner's new group Tin Tin, and played on their second album '' Astral Taxi'' (1971). In 1975 Groszmann signed to Ringo Starr's own record label Ring O' Records. He is most notable for his song " A Dose of Rock and Roll" which was covered by Starr on the 1976 album '' Ringo's Rotogravure''.
