Aquileo J. EcheverrÃa
Aquileo J. EcheverrÃa (May 22, 1866 in San José, Costa Rica – March 11, 1909 in Barcelona) was a Costa Rican politician, writer, and journalist. Early life After graduating from the National Institute, Echeverria fell on hard times. He enlisted in the military expedition against Justo Rufino Barrios, Barrios's Guatemala. After the expedition he stayed for a while in Nicaragua, forging a good relationship with President General Cárdenas. EcheverrÃa also served in the Nicaraguan government. Return to Costa Rica EcheverrÃa returned to Costa Rica and became a journalist. He worked in publications like ''The Republic'', ''Trade'', ''Costa Rica Illustrated'' and ''La Patria''. In 1887 he was appointed Attaché at the Embassy of Costa Rica in Washington, D.C. There he participated in the historic border agreement between Costa Rica and Nicaragua. Justo Rufino Barrios
Justo Rufino Barrios Auyón (19 July 1835 – 2 April 1885) was a Guatemalan politician and military general who served as President of Guatemala from 1873 to his death in 1885. He was known for his liberal reforms and his attempts to reunite Central America. Early life Barrios was known from his youth for his intellect and energy, went to Guatemala City to study law, and became a lawyer in 1862. Rise to power In 1867, revolt broke out in western Guatemala, which many residents wished to return to its former status of an independent state as Los Altos. Barrios joined with the rebels in Quetzaltenango, and soon proved himself a capable military leader, and in time gained the rank of general in the rebel army.
