Apsley F.C. (Scotland)
Apsley Football Club was a 19th-century association football club from Mount Florida, in Glasgow. History The club was founded in 1876 under the name Winton, the first recorded match for the club being against the 10th D.R.V. in April that year. It was admitted to the Scottish Football Association in time to enter the 1877–78 Scottish Cup, but, despite having 45 members, the club scratched when drawn to face Parkgrove. The club was thereupon briefly taken over by Rovers, but the merged club did not survive the season. In 1879, the club re-formed as Apsley, after the buildings close to the ground (and in which the club's honorary secretary lived). Apsley played mostly low-key matches, until the club decided to enter the 1882–83 Scottish Cup. Stenhousemuir F
Stenhousemuir (; gd, Featha Thaigh nan Clach) is a town in the Central Lowlands of Scotland. It lies within the Falkirk council area of Scotland. The town is north-northwest of Falkirk and directly adjoins to Larbert in the west, where the nearest rail access is located. The villages of Carron and Carronshore adjoin Stenhousemuir to the east but to a lesser extent. At the 2001 census it showed that it had a resident population of 10,351 but according to a 2009 estimate this was revised to around 10,190 residents. The combined population of the four localities in 2011 was 24,722, representing about 15% of the Falkirk council area total. In 2008, a £15 million town centre development scheme was completed and opened which provided a new civic square, a library and large retailing outlets for Stenhousemuir. Crosshill is an area of Glasgow, Scotland. It is situated south of the River Clyde. It was an independent police burgh from 1871 to 1891 before being annexed by the City of Glasgow. History Formerly part of the County of Renfrew, Crosshill had a brief existence as an independent police burgh from 1871 until it was absorbed by Glasgow in 1891. Crosshill and Govanhill to its north form a continuous built-up area and due to sharing a postcode and amenities, as well as a similar design style in some buildings, they are often considered to be the same district (however historically this was not the case – Govanhill was in the County of Lanark). Mount Florida ( gd, Cnoc Florida) is an area in the south-east of the city of Glasgow, Scotland. Origins The Glasgow district of Mount Florida originated on the "Lands of Mount Floridon", which were described in detail when offered for sale at auction on 21 September 1814. The notice in the city's ''Herald'' newspaper described the estate as consisting of upwards of , with a mansion house containing two dwellings and gardens well stocked with fruit trees. Contemporary maps from the 1850s show the old house renamed as "Mount Florida, (Ruin)". It was entered from Prospecthill Road and consisted of two semi-detached dwellings and surrounding gardens. Much of the present suburb is situated in the area to the south of the old house. This ground was part of the "Lands of Clincart", which were put up for sale by auction on 28 June 1836. 1882–83 Scottish Cup
The 1882–83 Scottish Cup – officially the Scottish Football Association Challenge Cup – was the tenth season of Scotland's most prestigious football knockout competition. Dumbarton won the cup for the first, and so far only, time when they beat Vale of Leven 2–1 in a replayed final. Defending champions Queen's Park were knock-out by eventual winners Dumbarton in the quarter-finals. Calendar As with the previous competitions, the eighth edition of the Scottish Cup took on the format of a traditional knockout tournament. For the earlier rounds, the names of competing teams were placed into lots according to their districts and drawn into pairs.
