Apslawn is a rural locality in the local government area (LGA) of Glamorgan–Spring Bay in the South-east LGA region of Tasmania. The locality is about north of the town of Triabunna. The 2021 census recorded a population of 15 for the state suburb of Apslawn. History Apslawn is a confirmed locality. The name comes from a property established here by John Lyne about 1833. Sir William Lyne, an Australian politician, came from this family. Geography The southern boundary follows the centreline of Moulting Lagoon, an inlet of Great Oyster Bay Great Oyster Bay is a broad and sheltered bay on the east coast of Tasmania, Australia which opens onto the Tasman Sea. Triabunna, Tasmania
Triabunna is a rural residential locality in the local government area (LGA) of Glamorgan–Spring Bay in the South-east LGA region of Tasmania. The locality is about north-east of the city of Hobart. The has a population of 905 for the state suburb of Triabunna. It is the second largest township on the east coast of Tasmania (after St Helens, population 2049, 2006 Census), the civic and municipal heart of the Glamorgan Spring Bay Council and is 84 kilometres to the north-east of the state capital Hobart. It is a coastal town on the Tasman Highway, and is sheltered within Spring Bay at the mouth of MacCleans Creek and Vickerys Rivulet. The nearest township is Orford, 6 kilometres to the south on the far side of the bay. The nearby resort and residences of Louisville are considered a satellite community of Triabunna. Glamorgan-Spring Bay Council is a local government body in Tasmania, situated on the central east coast of the state. Glamorgan-Spring Bay is classified as a rural local government area and has a population of 4,528, the major towns of the region include Bicheno, Orford and Triabunna with Swansea the principal town. Division Of Lyons (state)
The electoral division of Lyons is one of the five electorates in the Tasmanian House of Assembly, it is the largest electorate covering most of central and eastern Tasmania. Lyons is named jointly in honor of Joseph Lyons, Prime Minister of Australia (1932–1939); Premier of Tasmania (1923–1928), and Joseph's wife, Dame Enid Lyons, the first woman elected to the Australian House of Representatives in 1943. The electorate shares its name and boundaries with the federal division of Lyons. Douglas-Apsley National Park
Douglas-Apsley is a national park and a locality on the east coast of Tasmania, Australia, 149 km northeast of Hobart, and a few kilometres north of Bicheno. It is one of Tasmania's newer National Parks, having been declared on 27 December 1989. Description The park preserves remnant east coast dry forested catchment of three main streams, Apsley River, Denison Rivulet and Douglas River. Highlights include deep gorges, wildflower displays and mild inland climate. Visitors can undertake short walks or do a three-day trek. Birds The park has been identified by BirdLife International as an Important Bird Area because it supports 11 of Tasmania's endemic bird species as well as flame and pink robins and, probably, swift parrots. Bicheno, Tasmania
Bicheno is a locality and town on the east coast of Tasmania, Australia, 185 km north-east of Hobart on the Tasman Highway, with a population of around 950. It is part of the municipality of Glamorgan-Spring Bay. The town is primarily a fishing port and a beach resort. History The town was named in honour of James Ebenezer Bicheno, the British Colonial Secretary for Van Diemen's Land from 1843 to 1851, with the name in use in 1851. The first historical reference to the place that was to become Bicheno was made by James Kelly during his circumnavigation of Van Diemen's Land. He landed here (when it was known as Waubs Harbour) to dry his provisions. Waub's Harbour was the location for a number of shore-based bay whaling stations in the late 1830s and early 1840s. Cranbrook is a locality and small rural community in the local government area of Glamorgan-Spring Bay, in the Central east coast region of Tasmania. It is located about north of the town of Swansea. The 2016 census determined a population of 67 for the state suburb of Cranbrook. History The locality name is believed to be derived from a town in southern England, probably Cranbrook, Kent. That name was derived from Old English words for “a marsh (or brook) of cranes”. 2021 Australian Census
The 2021 Australian census, simply called the 2021 Census, was the eighteenth national Census of Population and Housing in Australia. The 2021 Census took place on 10 August 2021, and was conducted by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS). The total population of the Commonwealth of Australia was counted as 25,422,788 – an increase of 8.6 per cent or 2,020,896 people over the previous 2016 census. Results from the 2021 census were released to the public on 28 June 2022 from the Australian Bureau of Statistics website. William Lyne
Sir William John Lyne KCMG (6 April 1844 – 3 August 1913) was an Australian politician who served as Premier of New South Wales from 1899 to 1901, and later as a federal cabinet minister under Edmund Barton and Alfred Deakin. He is best known as the subject of the so called " Hopetoun Blunder", unexpectedly being asked to serve as the first Prime Minister of Australia but proving unable to form a government. Lyne was born in Van Diemen's Land, the son of a pastoral farmer. When he was 20, he and cousin took up a sheep station in North West Queensland. However, he moved back home after a few years and found work in local government. Lyne moved to New South Wales in 1875, buying a station near Albury and becoming prominent in community affairs. He was elected to the colonial Legislative Assembly in 1880, and first entered cabinet in 1885 under George Dibbs.
