The Apsheronsk narrow-gauge railway (russian: italic=yes, Апшеронская узкоколейная железная дорога, ''Apsheronskya uzkokoleynaya zheleznaya doroga'') is a mountain narrow-gauge railway located in Krasnodar Krai, Russia. It was opened in 1927 and built in the standard Russian narrow-gauge track gauge of . Current status The length of the railway as of 2010 is of which is operational. It carries freight (including: wood, food, and postal services) and passengers, including a train which transports children to school. The Head Office of the railway is located in Apsheronsk. Krasnodar Krai (russian: Краснода́рский край, r=Krasnodarsky kray, p=krəsnɐˈdarskʲɪj kraj) is a federal subject of Russia (a krai), located in the North Caucasus region in Southern Russia and administratively a part of the Southern Federal District. The Imperial Russian narrow railway track gauge was , the current track gauge is predominantly . In Soviet Russia, narrow-gauge railways were mostly common in forestry and peat industries in low inhabited places. Usually they have one main line and number of temporary branches. Mezmay
Mezmay ( ady, Мэзмые, russian: Мезма́й) is a settlement in Apsheronsky District of Krasnodar Krai, Russia, located in the valley of the Kurdzhips River near its confluence with the Mezmay River, south-east of Apsheronsk. Population: less than a thousand inhabitants. It is a popular mountain resort. The village was linked with Apsheronsk by branch line of the Apsheronsk narrow-gauge railway, yet, in 2010 this branch was almost completely dismantled, except length part between Mezmay and village Guamka.
