Appleton Rum Cashspiel
The Curling Store Cashspiel is an annual bonspiel, or curling tournament, held at the Lakeshore Curling Club in Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia. It has been an on and off event of the Men's and Women's World Curling Tour since 2004 under many different names. Lower Sackville
Lower Sackville is a community within the urban area of Halifax Regional Municipality, in Nova Scotia, Canada. History Before the European colonization in 1749, the Mi'kmaq lived in this area for thousands of years. In August 1749, Captain John Gorham, acting on orders from Governor Edward Cornwallis to establish a military fort named Fort Sackville. (The community was named after George Germain, 1st Viscount Sackville.). As the community grew, the oak trees that lined the main drive were cut down one-by-one due to poor urban planning. As more homes were desired, the farmlands made way for further urbanization. Kelly Mittelstadt (born June 1, 1975 in Edmonton, Alberta) is a Canadian curler from Elmsdale, Nova Scotia. He currently plays lead for the Chad Stevens rink. Career Mittelstadt grew up in Alberta where he played juniors. He played third for Colin Davison's rink that won the 1994 Canadian Junior Curling Championships that year for Alberta. The team had defeated the Northwest Territories/Yukon team skipped by Kevin Koe in the final. At the 1994 World Junior Curling Championships, the team won a gold medal for Canada, defeated Germany's Daniel Herberg in the final. Mittelstadt later moved to Nova Scotia, and in 2004 joined the Shawn Adams rink as his lead. The team went to the 2005 Tim Hortons Brier where the lost in the final to Alberta's Randy Ferbey. Travis Colter (born October 15, 1991) is a Canadian curler from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. He currently plays second on Team Stuart Thompson. He was a member of the 2019 Nova Scotia men's championship rink that competed at the 2019 Tim Hortons Brier, Canada's national men's curling championship. Career Men's Colter began curling at around 2007. By 2010, he had already joined up with former Brier champion Mark Dacey, playing lead on his team. He played in his first provincial championship at the 2011 Nova Scotia Men's Molson Provincial Championship. There, the team lost in the C qualifier final. The next season, they lost in the final of the 2012 Nova Scotia Men's Molson Provincial Championship to the Jamie Murphy rink.
