Appian Graphics was a supplier of multi-monitor graphics accelerators founded in 1994. History The company was best known for its Jeronimo and Gemini product lines, and for the HydraVision display management software. The main competitor for Appian on the multi-monitor solutions market was STB Systems. The company was acquired in July 2001 by Colorgraphic Communications, Inc., which ceased business in 2007 or 2008. Appian Graphics originally developed HydraVision in the late 1990s for their multi-head display solutions. ATI Technologies acquired HydraVision in July 2001 along with Appian's HydraVision team to join its then-new dual-head Radeon 7500 and 8500 series. Radeon R100 Series
The Radeon R100 is the first generation of Radeon graphics chips from ATI Technologies. The line features 3D computer graphics, 3D acceleration based upon Direct3D 7.0 and OpenGL, OpenGL 1.3, and all but the entry-level versions offloading host geometry calculations to a transform and lighting, hardware transform and lighting (T&L) engine, a major improvement in features and performance compared to the preceding ATI Rage, Rage design. The processors also include 2d computer graphics, 2D GUI acceleration, video acceleration, and multiple display outputs. "R100" refers to the development codename of the initially released GPU of the generation. It is the basis for a variety of other succeeding products. S3 Graphics, Ltd (commonly referred to as S3) was an American computer graphics company. The company sold the Trio, ViRGE, Savage 3D, and Chrome series of graphics processors. Struggling against competition from 3dfx Interactive, ATI and Nvidia, it merged with hardware manufacturer Diamond Multimedia in 1999. The resulting company renamed itself to SONICblue Incorporated, and, two years later, the graphics portion was spun off into a new joint effort with VIA Technologies. 3Dlabs was a fabless semiconductor company. It was founded in 1994 with headquarters in San Jose, California. It originally developed the GLINT and PERMEDIA high-end graphics chip technology, that was used on many of the world's leading computer graphics cards in the CAD and DCC markets, including its own Wildcat and Oxygen cards. In 2006 the company focused development efforts on its emerging media processing business, and in 2009 became the Singapore-based ZiiLABS.
