Appellhofplatz Station
Appellhofplatz station is an underground station and hub on the Cologne Stadtbahn lines 3, 4, 5, 16 and 18 in Cologne. The station complex consists of two stations about apart: ''Appellhofplatz/Zeughaus station'' used by line 5 and ''Appellhofplatz/Breite Straße station'' used by all other lines. The station is named after Appellhofplatz ( en, Appeals court square) and lies in the Innenstadt, Cologne, Innenstadt district of Cologne. History and Layout The station was opened in 1968 and 1969 and consists of a mezzanine and two platform levels with four side platforms and four rail tracks. Between the two parts of the station there is a triangular intersection, connecting the tunnels to Neumarkt station, Neumarkt, Friesenplatz station, Friesenplatz and Dom/Hbf (KVB), Dom/Hbf. Dom/Hauptbahnhof station ( en, Cathedral/Main Station, sometimes abbreviated as Dom/Hbf) is an underground station on lines 5, 16 and 18 of the Cologne Stadtbahn system. The station is located under the southwest corner of the Köln Hauptbahnhof, the city's main railway station and along the northern edge of the Cologne Cathedral (german: Kölner Dom). The Cologne Opera (German: Oper der Stadt Köln or Oper Köln) refers both to the main opera house in Cologne, Germany and to its resident opera company. History of the company From the mid 18th century, opera was performed in the city's court theatres by travelling Italian opera companies. EL-DE Haus
EL-DE Haus, officially the NS Documentation Center of the City of Cologne, located in Cologne, is the former headquarters of the Gestapo and now a museum documenting the Third Reich. The building was at first the business premises of jeweller Leopold Dahmen, and the building takes its name from his initials. In 1934, the Nazis rented the building from him and turned it into the headquarters of the secret police, the Gestapo. Surprisingly, the building survived the Allied bombing of Cologne during World War II, while 90% of the city was destroyed. After the bombings, the basements of the building, which had been used as prison cells and torture rooms for forced labourers and political enemies, were used to store wartime files and paperwork. Inscriptions made on the walls of the prison cells by inmates can still be viewed today. Kölnisches Stadtmuseum
The Kölnische Stadtmuseum is the municipal history museum of Cologne, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is housed in the building of the historic with the adjacent Prussian . Its collection includes around 350,000 objects from the Middle Ages to the immediate present. Zeughaus
The Zeughaus (English: Arsenal) is a listed building and the oldest structure on Unter den Linden boulevard in the historic centre of Berlin. Erected from 1695 to 1706 according to plans by Johann Arnold Nering, Martin Grünberg, Andreas Schlüter and Jean de Bodt in Baroque style, it was later converted into a Prussian Hall of Fame. Damaged during the Allied bombing in World War II, it was rebuilt from 1949 to 1967 as part of the Forum Fridericianum.
