Paul Émile Appell
:''M. P. Appell is the same person: it stands for Monsieur Paul Appell''. Paul Émile Appell (27 September 1855, in Strasbourg – 24 October 1930, in Paris) was a French mathematician and Rector of the University of Paris. Appell polynomials and Appell's equations of motion are named after him, as is rue Paul Appell in the 14th arrondissement of Paris and the minor planet 988 Appella. Life Paul Appell entered the École Normale Supérieure in 1873. He was elected to the French Academy of Sciences in 1892. In 1895, he became a Professor at the École Centrale Paris. Between 1903 and 1920 he was Dean of the Faculty of Science of the University of Paris, then Rector of the University of Paris from 1920 to 1925. Appell was the President of the Société astronomique de France (SAF), the French astronomical society, from 1919 to 1921. His daughter Marguerite Appell (1883–1969), who married the mathematician Émile Borel, is known as a novelist under her pen-name Camille Marbo. ...

Dave Appell
David Appell (March 24, 1922 – November 18, 2014) was an American musician, musical arranger and record producer born in Philadelphia. Career Appell (pronounced "AP-el") is associated mainly with the Cameo-Parkway record label, in whose history he played a substantial part. He started working as an arranger for several United States Navy big bands in the mid-1940s during his service in World War II, including Jimmie Lunceford's black orchestra. He later arranged for dance orchestras, including Benny Carter and Earl "Fatha" Hines. He recorded for a while on Decca Records as the Dave Appell Four, until Paul Cohen of Decca suggested he change the group name to the Applejacks. Appell also became a publisher, joining ASCAP in 1955, collaborating with Max Freedman. He appeared prominently in the 1956 Alan Freed film, ''Don't Knock the Rock'', and worked for a while as the studio band and music director on the Ernie Kovacs TV and radio shows in Philadelphia. Next Appell and the ...

Appell Polynomials
In mathematics, an Appell sequence, named after Paul Émile Appell, is any polynomial sequence \_ satisfying the identity :\frac p_n(x) = np_(x), and in which p_0(x) is a non-zero constant. Among the most notable Appell sequences besides the trivial example \ are the Hermite polynomials, the Bernoulli polynomials, and the Euler polynomials. Every Appell sequence is a Sheffer sequence, but most Sheffer sequences are not Appell sequences. Appell sequences have a probabilistic interpretation as systems of moments. Equivalent characterizations of Appell sequences The following conditions on polynomial sequences can easily be seen to be equivalent: * For n = 1, 2, 3,\ldots, ::\frac p_n(x) = n p_(x) :and p_0(x) is a non-zero constant; * For some sequence \_^ of scalars with c_0 \neq 0, ::p_n(x) = \sum_^n \binom c_k x^; * For the same sequence of scalars, ::p_n(x) = \left(\sum_^\infty \frac D^k\right) x^n, :where ::D = \frac; * For n=0,1,2,\ldots, ::p_n(x+y) = \sum_^n \bi ...

Appell's Equation Of Motion
In classical mechanics, Appell's equation of motion (aka the Gibbs–Appell equation of motion) is an alternative general formulation of classical mechanics described by Josiah Willard Gibbs in 1879 and Paul Émile Appell in 1900. Statement The Gibbs-Appell equation reads :Q_ = \frac, where \alpha_r=\ddot is an arbitrary generalized acceleration, or the second time derivative of the generalized coordinates q_r , and Q_r is its corresponding generalized force. The generalized force gives the work done :dW = \sum_^ Q_ dq_, where the index r runs over the D generalized coordinates q_r , which usually correspond to the degrees of freedom of the system. The function S is defined as the mass-weighted sum of the particle accelerations squared, :S = \frac \sum_^ m_ \mathbf_^\,, where the index k runs over the K particles, and :\mathbf_k = \ddot_k = \frac is the acceleration of the k -th particle, the second time derivative of its position vector \mathbf_k . Each \m ...

An apple is an edible fruit produced by an apple tree (''Malus domestica''). Apple fruit tree, trees are agriculture, cultivated worldwide and are the most widely grown species in the genus ''Malus''. The tree originated in Central Asia, where its wild ancestor, ''Malus sieversii'', is still found today. Apples have been grown for thousands of years in Asia and Europe and were brought to North America by European colonization of the Americas, European colonists. Apples have Religion, religious and mythology, mythological significance in many cultures, including Norse mythology, Norse, Greek mythology, Greek, and Christianity in Europe, European Christian tradition. Apples grown from seed tend to be very different from those of their parents, and the resultant fruit frequently lacks desired characteristics. Generally, apple cultivars are propagated by clonal grafting onto rootstocks. Apple trees grown without rootstocks tend to be larger and much slower to fruit after plantin ...
