Apparition was a Los Angeles-based film distribution company founded by Bob Berney and Bill Pohlad in 2009. It purchased, distributed and marketed films of a more "art house" and "cutting-edge" flavor than do major studios. Bob Berney (born 1953) is an American independent film executive based in Los Angeles. Currently, he is the CEO of Picturehouse, an independent motion picture marketing and distribution company that acquires, markets and distributes films from the U.S. and around the world. In September 2021, Picturehouse announced that it will release '' Becoming Cousteau'', a documentary that uses previously unseen archival footage to chronicle the life and career of the adventurous oceanographer and filmmaker Jacques-Yves Cousteau, who coinvented scuba diving and foretold the impact of pollution on climate change. Directed by Liz Garbus, the film is scheduled to be released on October 22, 2021. Bill Pohlad
Bill Pohlad is an American film producer and director. He is the son of Mary Eloise (O'Rourke) and billionaire financier Carl Pohlad, who owned the Minnesota Twins baseball franchise from 1984 until his death in 2009; and the brother of Jim Pohlad, who took over as the team's principal owner upon their father's death and Bob Pohlad, owner of NorthMarq Capital. An art film (or arthouse film) is typically an independent film, aimed at a niche market rather than a mass market audience. Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions (SPWA) is a specialty film division of Sony Pictures. The company specializes in acquiring and producing films for a wide variety of distribution platforms. History The group became a stand-alone division of Sony Pictures in 2007. Originally being called as ''Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions Group'' (SPWAG), the group's name was changed to "Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions" (SPWA) in late 2010. The group had sometimes been called "Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE) Worldwide Acquisitions Group". SPWA produces and acquires about 60 films per year, usually through Stage 6 Films, Affirm Films, and Destination Films. ''The Square'' is a 2008 Australian neo-noir thriller film directed by Nash Edgerton, written by his brother Joel Edgerton and Matthew Dabner, and starring David Roberts and Claire van der Boom. Based upon an original idea by Joel, the project was written and then shelved by the actor because he felt it was not strong enough. It was only made after his director brother Nash read the script and convinced him it could be filmed as a thriller.
