The Apostolic Nunciature to Madagascar is an ecclesiastical office of the Catholic Church in Madagascar. It is a diplomatic post of the Holy See, whose representative is called the Apostolic Nuncio with the rank of an ambassador. The nuncio resides in Antananarivo. Pope John XXIII established the Delegation to Madagascar on 3 May 1960 to represent its interests there to both Catholic Church and government officials. The Delegate had no diplomatic status. Adriano Bernardini
Adriano Bernardini (born 13 August 1942) is an Italian prelate of the Catholic Church who occupied positions in the diplomatic service of the Holy See from the 1970s until he retired in 2017. His first assignment as Apostolic Nuncio was to Bangladesh (1992–1995) and his last to Italy (2011–2017). He has been an archbishop since 1992. Biography On 31 March 1968, he was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Rome by Cardinal Egidio Cardinal Vagnozzi. He attended the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy to study diplomacy and earn a doctorate in canon law. His first assignment in the diplomatic service of the Holy See was in the Apostolic Nunciature to Pakistan, which also follows events in Afghanistan. He later worked in the nunciatures to Angola, Japan, Venezuela and Spain. On 17 January 1989 he was appointed chargé d'affaires of the nunciature in Taiwan. This is a list of diplomatic missions of the Holy See. Since the fifth century, long before the founding of the Vatican City State in 1929, papal envoys (now known as nuncios) have represented the Holy See to foreign potentates. Additionally, papal representatives known not as nuncios but as apostolic delegates ensure contact between the Holy See and the Catholic Church in countries that do not have diplomatic relations with the Holy See. At present, there is one residential apostolic delegate, for Jerusalem and Palestine, as well as non-residential delegates for four countries (Brunei, Laos, Mauritania, and Somalia) and for the territories and countries without diplomatic relations with the Holy See in three regions (the Arabian Peninsula, the Caribbean, the Pacific Ocean). Paolo Rocco Gualtieri (born 1 February 1961) is an Italian prelate of the Catholic Church who works in the diplomatic service of the Holy See. Biography Paolo Rocco Gualtieri was born on 1 February 1961 in Supersano, Province of Lecce, Italy. He was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Ugento-Santa Maria di Leuca on 24 September 1988. On 13 April 2015, Pope Francis appointed him titular archbishop of Sagone and Apostolic Nuncio to Madagascar. He received his episcopal consecration from Cardinal Pietro Parolin on May 30. Eugene Martin Nugent (born 21 October 1958) is an Irish Roman Catholic prelate who has served as Apostolic Nuncio to Bahrain, Kuwait and Qatar since January 2021. Early life and education Nugent was born in Gurtaderra, Scarriff, Scariff, County Clare on 21 October 1958. He attended primary school at Clonusker National School and secondary school at Scariff Community College.
