The Apostolic Nunciature to Japan ( la, Nuntius Apostolicus in Iaponia, ja, 駐日本国バチカン市国大使館) is an ecclesiastical office of the Catholic Church in Japan. It is a diplomatic post of the Holy See, whose representative is called the Apostolic Nuncio with the rank of an ambassador. Bruno Wüstenberg (10 March 1912 – 31 May 1984) was a German prelate of the Catholic Church who spent his career in the diplomatic service of the Holy See. Biography Bruno Wüstenberg was born on 10 March 1912 in Duisburg, Germany. He studied Catholic theology at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn, University of Bonn, the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg, and at the seminary in Bensberg near Cologne. He was ordained a priest on 3 March 1938 in Cologne Cathedral and then did pastoral work for a short time in Ulm. He studied law at the Pontifical Gregorian University and in 1945 joined the Roman Curia's Department of Prisoner of War Services. Joseph Chennoth (13 October 1943 – 8 September 2020) was a Syro Malabar Catholic prelate who worked in the diplomatic service of the Holy See. He was an archbishop and an apostolic nuncio since 1999. He was ordained a priest on 4 May 1969 by Bishop Paul Ch’eng Shih-kuang of Tainan, Taiwan. He prepared for a diplomatic career by completing the course of study at the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy in 1973. Pope John Paul II named him titular archbishop of Milevum and Apostolic Nuncio to the Central African Republic and Chad on 24 August 1999. He received his episcopal consecration on 30 October from Cardinal Angelo Sodano. Pope Benedict XVI named him Apostolic Nuncio to Tanzania and on 15 June 2005. Alberto Bottari de Castello (born 5 July 1942) is an Italian prelate of the Catholic Church who spent his career in the diplomatic service of the Holy See. Biography Alberto Bottari de Castello was born in Montebelluna, Province of Treviso in northern Italy, on 5 July 1942. He was ordained a priest on 11 September 1966. He prepared for a diplomatic career by completing the course of study at the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy in 1969. On 18 December 1999, Pope John Paul II named him a titular archbishop and nuncio to Gambia, Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone. He was consecrated a bishop on 6 January 2000. Ambrose Battista De Paoli (August 19, 1934 – October 10, 2007) was an American prelate of the Catholic Church who worked in the diplomatic service of the Holy See. Biography De Paoli was born in Jeannette, Pennsylvania and was ordained a priest on December 18, 1960, for the Archdiocese of Miami, Florida. William Aquin Carew (October 23, 1922 – May 8, 2012) was a Canadian prelate of the Catholic Church who worked in the diplomatic service of the Holy See from 1953 to 1997. Biography Carew was born in St. John's, Newfoundland on October 23, 1922. He attended St. Bonaventure's College from 1937 to 1940 and then St. Paul's Seminary at the University of Ottawa. He ordained a priest on June 15, 1947. He earned a doctorate in canon law from St. Paul's in 1950, choosing as his dissertation topic "The Apostolic Delegate".
