Apostolic Nunciature To Iraq
The Apostolic Nuncio to Iraq is the representative of the Holy See in Iraq. He is appointed by the pope and represents all Catholics in the country, both Latin Rite and Eastern Catholic. Since 1966 the government of Iraq has had full diplomatic relations with the Holy See and as such the papal representative is titled Nuncio. During the 2003 Iraq War, the Holy See was the only sovereign state to keep its ambassador in Iraq. Holy See
The Holy See ( lat, Sancta Sedes, ; it, Santa Sede ), also called the See of Rome, Petrine See or Apostolic See, is the jurisdiction of the Pope in his role as the bishop of Rome. It includes the apostolic episcopal see of the Diocese of Rome, which has ecclesiastical jurisdiction over the Catholic Church and the sovereign city-state known as the Vatican City. Mitja Leskovar
Mitja Leskovar (born 3 January 1970) is a Slovenian priest of the Catholic Church who has been named a titular archbishop and appointed Apostolic Nuncio to Iraq. He has worked in the diplomatic service of the Holy See since 2001. Biography Mitja Leskovar was born in Kranj, Slovenia, on 3 January 1970 and grew up in Kokrica. He entered the seminary in Ljubljana in 1989, where he earned a degree in theology. He was ordained a priest of the Diocese of Ljubljana on 29 June 1995 from archbishop Alojzij Šuštar. After two years of pastoral work in Domžale, he continued his studies in Rome. He completed his master's degree in 1999 and earned a doctorate in canon law at the Pontifical Gregorian University. Alberto Ortega Martín
Alberto Ortega Martín (born 14 November 1962) is a Spanish prelate of the Catholic Church who works in the diplomatic service of the Holy See. Biography Alberto Ortega Martín was born in Madrid, Spain, on 14 November 1962. He was ordained a priest of the Archdiocese of Madrid on 28 April 1990 by Cardinal Ángel Suquía Goicoechea. On 1 July 1997, he joined the diplomatic service of the Holy See and worked in Nicaragua, South Africa, and Lebanon. Giorgio Lingua (born 23 March 1960) is an Italian prelate of the Catholic Church who has worked in the diplomatic service of the Holy See since 1992. He was named Apostolic Nuncio to Croatia on 22 July 2019. He was previously nuncio in Iraq, Jordan and Cuba. Biography He was born on 23 March 1960 in Fossano, in the province of Cuneo, Italy, in 1960. He was ordained on 10 November 1984. He earned a doctorate in canon law. Francis Assisi Chullikatt JCD (b 20 March 1953) is an Indian-born prelate of the Catholic Church. He has been the Apostolic Nuncio to Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro since 1 October 2022. Marian Oleś (8 December 1934 – 24 May 2005) was a Polish prelate of the Catholic Church who worked in the diplomatic service of the Holy See and in the Roman Curia. Biography Marian Oleś was born on 8 December 1934 in Gmina Miastkowo, Poland. As a boy he was exiled from Poland with his family by the Soviets and they lived in Siberia, Persia and India, and his early education was in India and England. He was ordained a priest on 9 July 1961. He joined the diplomatic service of the Holy See and his first postings were to Ecuador, Indonesia, Iran, and Portugal. He then spent ten years in Rome working at the Congregation for Bishops. Luigi Conti (2 March 1929 – 5 December 2015) was an Italian prelate of the Catholic Church who spent his career in the diplomatic service of the Holy See. He held the title of archbishop and the rank of nuncio from 1975. Biography Conti was born on 2 March 1929 in Ceprano, Province of Frosinone, Italy.
