Apolinary Kotowicz
Apolinary Stanisław Kotowicz (24 March 1859 – 21 April 1917) was a Polish painter of landscapes, portraits and genre scenes. He was also a set decorator and amateur photographer. Biography Kotowicz was born on 24 March 1859 in Biecz. His father, Antoni Kotowicz (1816-1885) was a medical doctor and naturalist from Lwów. He began his education in Tarnów. In 1878, he moved to Kraków, where he spent most of his adult life. Gorlice–Tarnów Offensive
The Gorlice–Tarnów offensive during World War I was initially conceived as a minor German offensive to relieve Russian pressure on the Austro-Hungarians to their south on the Eastern Front, but resulted in the Central Powers' chief offensive effort of 1915, causing the total collapse of the Russian lines and their retreat far into Russia. The continued series of actions lasted the majority of the campaigning season for 1915, starting in early May and only ending due to bad weather in October. Włodzimierz Tetmajer
Włodzimierz Tetmajer (December 31, 1861 in Harklowa – December 26, 1923 in Kraków) was a Polish painter with works in collections of the Warsaw National Museum and Kraków. Biography Włodzimierz Tetmajer was born in Harklowa near Krakow in the town of Nowy Targ and died in Bronowice, now a district of Kraków. Tetmajer studied painting at the Kraków School of Fine Arts (''Szkoła Sztuk Pięknych w Krakowie'') from 1875 to 1886, then in Vienna and Munich (1886–1889), in Paris at the Académie Colarossi, and with Jan Matejko from 1889 to 1893. In 1890 he married Anna Mikołajczykówna, a peasant's daughter from Bronowice in the spirit of the Young Poland's return to the roots. Tetmajer settled with his wife in a remote house covered with thatch, where he was often visited by various friends.
