Adam Parfrey (April 12, 1957 – May 10, 2018) was an American journalist, editor, and the publisher of Feral House books, whose work in all three capacities frequently centered on unusual, extreme, or "forbidden" areas of knowledge. ''You Can't Win'' is an autobiography by burglar and hobo Jack Black, written in the early to mid-1920s and first published in 1926. It describes Black's life on the road, in prison and his various criminal capers in the American and Canadian west from the late 1880s to early 20th century. The book was a major influence upon William S. Burroughs and other Beat writers. Summary The book tells of Black's experiences in the hobo underworld, freight-hopping around the western United States and Canada, with the majority of incidents taking place from the late 1880s to around 1910. Dilettante Press
Dilettante Press is a now defunct independent book publisher, co-founded by Jodi Wille, Nick Rubenstein, and Steven Nalepa in 1998, joined soon after by partner Hedi El Kholti. Dilettante was a publishing house dedicated to "challeng ngtraditional notions of art and culture," focusing its efforts on featuring visionary, outsider, vernacular art in books. Dilettante only published three titles, but "their impact was considerable." Dilettante’s first book, ''The End Is Near! Visions of Apocalypse, Millennium and Utopia'', won the Benjamin Franklin Award for Best First Book. Their subsequent titles included: ''Extreme Canvas: Hand-Painted Movie Posters from Ghana.'' Michael Jenkins Moynihan (born 17 January 1969) is an American writer, editor, translator, journalist, artist, and musician. He is best known for co-writing '' Lords of Chaos'', a book about black metal. Moynihan is founder of the music group Blood Axis, the music label Storm Records and publishing company Dominion Press. John Sinclair (poet)
John Sinclair (born October 2, 1941) is an American poet, writer, and political activist from Flint, Michigan. Sinclair's defining style is jazz poetry, and he has released most of his works in audio formats. Most of his pieces include musical accompaniment, usually by a varying group of collaborators dubbed Blues Scholars. As an emerging young poet in the mid-1960s, Sinclair took on the role of manager for the Detroit rock band MC5. The band's politically charged music and its Yippie core audience dovetailed with Sinclair's own radical development. In 1968, while still working with the band, he conspicuously served as a founding member of the White Panther Party, a militantly anti-racist socialist group and counterpart of the Black Panthers.
