Apna Desh (1949 Film)
''Apna Desh'' (Our Country) is a 1949 Hindi social drama film set against the backdrop of Partition and directed by V. Shantaram for his Rajkamal Kalamandir banner. The story was written by Diwan Sharar and Keshavrao Date. Sharar also wrote the screenplay and dialogue along with acting in the film. Music was by S. Purshottam and lyrics were by Diwan Sharar and Mirza Ghalib. The cast included Pushpa Hans, Umesh Sharma, Sudha Apte, Chandrashekhar, Manmohan Krishna, Keshavrao Date, Krishna Goel, Diwan Sharar, Parshuram and Satish Vyas. The film was made a year after Shantaram made '' Dr. Kotnis Ki Amar Kahani'' (1946), which was not a success at the box office. Rajkamal Kalamandir
Rajkamal Kalamandir was a noted film production company and studio in Mumbai. It was established by V. Shantaram in 1942, after he left Prabhat Films. The studio produced films both in Hindi and Marathi, and it was best known for '' Dr. Kotnis Ki Amar Kahani'' (1946), ''Amar Bhoopali'' (1951), ''Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baaje'' (1955), ''Do Aankhen Barah Haath'' (1957), ''Navrang'' (1959) and '' Pinjra'' (1972). In its heyday, Rajkamal was one of the most sophisticated studios of the country. History Prabhat Films was founded in Kolhapur, in 1929, towards the end of the silent films' era, by the V. Shantaram and V.G. Damle. The studio later shifted to Pune; here Shantaram directed notable films ''Amrit Manthan'' (1934) and ''Kunku'' (''Duniya Na Mane'', Hindi) in 1937. Vasant Desai
Vasant Desai (1912–1975) was an Indian film music composer, most remembered for his score in V. Shantaram films like ''Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baaje'' (1955), ''Do Aankhen Barah Haath'' (1957), Vijay Bhatt's ''Goonj Uthi Shehnai'' (1959), ''Sampoorna Ramayan'' (1961), ''Ashirwad'' (1968) and Hrishikesh Mukherjee's '' Guddi'' (1971). Early life Desai was born in 1912 into a wealthy family in Sonawade village, Savantwadi state, ruled by the Bhonsale clan, and grew up in Kudal area, also in Konkan belt, Sindhudurg district, Maharashtra in western India. Career Desai was with the famous Prabhat Film Company since it started making talkies. He acted, sang, and sometimes composed songs in Prabhat's films like ''Dharmatma'' and ''Sant Dnyaneshwar''. ''Billi'' is a 2000 Pakistani Urdu horror film directed by Syed Noor starring Meera, Noor and Saima. This horror film is supposedly based on a true story about a victim turning into a scum-busting avenger. Plot The film opens with a scene where fiery criminal lawyer Meera is being gang-raped to put a rapist behind bars, but the judge rules against her. Though the rapist walks free, is there a power who can save him from the justice of the “Billi” — a shadowy figure dressed in a black cat suit who has taken to the streets at night rounding up all scum and sleaze and dishing out her own brand of justice to chilling effect. There is an earnest police officer (Uthba) determined to nab the cat but he does not appear to be making much headway as this cat appears to have at least nine lives. Morarji Desai
Morarji Ranchhodji Desai (29 February 1896 – 10 April 1995) was an Indian independence activist and politician who served as the 4th Prime Minister of India between 1977 to 1979 leading the government formed by the Janata Party. During his long career in politics, he held many important posts in government such as Chief Minister of Bombay State, Home Minister, Finance Minister and 2nd Deputy Prime Minister of India. Following the death of Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri, Desai was a strong contender for the position of Prime Minister, only to be defeated by Indira Gandhi in 1966.
