Arthur Adams (zoologist)
Arthur Adams (1820 in Gosport, Hampshire – 1878) was an England, English physician and natural history, naturalist. Adams was assistant surgeon Royal Navy on board HMS Samarang (1822), HMS ''Samarang'' during the survey of the islands of the East Indian Archipelago, Eastern Archipelago, from 1843 to 1846. He edited the ''Zoology of the voyage of H.M.S. Samarang'' (1850). Adam White (zoologist), Adam White collaborated with him in the descriptions of the Crustacean, Crustacea from the voyage. In 1857, during the Second Opium War, Second China War whilst serving as Surgeon on HMS Actaeon (1831), HMS ''Actaeon'', he was present at the storming of Guangzhou, Canton and awarded the Second China War Medal, China War Medal. He retired as Staff Surgeon aboard flagship HMS Royal Adelaide (1828), HMS ''Royal Adelaide'' at Plymouth in 1870. George Washington Tryon
George Washington Tryon Jr. (20 May 1838 – 5 February 1888) was an American malacologist who worked at the Academy of Natural Sciences in Philadelphia. Biography George Washington Tryon was the son of Edward K. Tryon and Adeline Savidt. In 1853 he attended the Friends Central School in Philadelphia. In 1859, Tryon became a member of the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia. He was largely responsible for the construction of new buildings for the Academy, especially, in 1866, a section for malacology. In 1869 he became the conservator in this malacological section. In 1865, together with a group of American malacologists, he founded (and financed) the American Journal of Conchology. This ended in 1872. In 1879 he started the ''Manual of Conchology; structural and systematic; with illustrations of the species'', volume 1, series 1. When he died, nine volumes of the first series had been published. Sowerby III
George Brettingham Sowerby III (London, 16 September 1843 – 31 January 1921) was a British conchologist, publisher, and illustrator. He was the eldest son of G. B. Sowerby II. At the age of seventeen or eighteen, he began his career as a conchologist, operating from his father's residence. From October 1897, the business was conducted under the name Sowerby and Fulton. Mr. Sowerby retired in January 1916. He married Miss Rose Wilkie in June 1867, and they had three children: one son and two daughters. He, too, worked (like his father George Brettingham Sowerby II and his grandfather George Brettingham Sowerby I) on the ''Thesaurus Conchyliorium'', a comprehensive, beautifully illustrated work on molluscs. He was colour blind, and thus his daughter did most of the colouring of his engravings. He was a prolific contributor to the scientific literature.
