Aníbal José Chávez Frías
Aníbal José Chávez Frías (January 9, 1957 – July 17, 2016) was a Venezuelan politician. He was the mayor of Sabaneta, Barinas, and the younger brother of former President Hugo Chávez and governor Adán Chávez. Chávez was born in 1956 as the third son of Hugo de los Reyes Chávez and Elena Frías de Chávez. Mayor of Sabaneta Aníbal was the mayor of Sabaneta, a city in Venezuela's Barinas State. Sabaneta is the capital city of Alberto Arvelo Torrealba municipality in Barinas. The city was founded by Juan de Alhama in 1787 and the principal industry is sugar production. Barinas State (, ) is one of the 23 states of Venezuela. The state capital is Barinas. Barinas State covers a total surface area of and had an estimated population of 970,689 in 2015. Toponymy The toponym "Barinas" is a variant of "varinas" (the name of an indigenous ethnic group that inhabited the Piedemonte before the arrival of the Spaniards); this may have a relationship with the name "Barima", given by the tunebos to the Santo Domingo river in the Aya myth. The meaning is unknown, but according to popular belief, it means a 'strong wind that comes from the valleys of the Santo Domingo river', referring to the Barinese wind, which blows in the Llanos Altos. Argenis Chávez Frías (born 3 July 1958) is a Venezuelan politician who served as Governor of Barinas state from 2016 to 2021. Adán Chávez
Adán Chávez Frías (born April 11, 1953) is a Venezuelan politician who was Governor of Barinas state from 2008 to 2016. Previously he was Ambassador to Cuba and then Minister of Education from 2007 to 2008. Guerrilla affiliations Adán studied at the University of the Andes, in Mérida where he was involved with pro-guerrilla groups prior to the election of his brother Hugo into the presidency. Through Adán, Hugo met with guerrilla fighters Douglas Bravo and William Izarra.
