''Any Answers?'' is a radio phone-in broadcast on BBC Radio 4. It is the companion programme to ''Any Questions?'', in which a panel of notable figures drawn from politics, media or business are asked for their views on current affairs by members of an invited audience assembled in a public venue. ''Any Answers?'' is broadcast on Saturday afternoons on BBC Radio 4, immediately after the repeat edition of ''Any Questions?'' has been aired. History The programme began in October 1954. It was originally based on letters from listeners to ''Any Questions?'' but has subsequently followed the trend to the more immediate "phone-in" format. Currently listeners can submit their responses to the views expressed in ''Any Questions?'' by email, text message, or telephone. BBC Light Programme
The BBC Light Programme was a national radio station which broadcast chiefly mainstream light entertainment and light music from 1945 until 1967, when it was replaced by BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio 2. It opened on 29 July 1945, taking over the long wave frequency which had earlier been used – prior to the outbreak of the Second World War on 1 September 1939 – by the BBC National Programme. The service was intended as a domestic replacement for the wartime BBC General Forces Programme which had gained many civilian listeners in Britain as well as members of the British Armed Forces. BBC Radio 4 is a British national radio station owned and operated by the BBC. The station replaced the BBC Home Service on 30 September 1967 and broadcasts a wide variety of spoken-word programmes from the BBC's headquarters at Broadcasting House, London. Anita Anand (journalist)
Anita Anand ( ; born 28 April 1972) is a British radio and television presenter, journalist, historian, and author. Early life and education Anand was born in 1972 in London, England, to Punjabi parents who migrated to India shortly after the partition of India and then, later, to the UK. Her family, prior to the partition, originated from a village near the Northwest Frontier Province and Afghanistan. Anand was privately educated at Bancroft's School in Woodford Green in Redbridge, east London. Anand then entered King's College, London, in 1990, graduating with a BA in English in 1993. In broadcasting, a phone-in or call-in is a programme format in which viewers or listeners are invited to air their live comments by telephone, usually in respect of a specific topic selected for discussion on the day of the broadcast. On radio (especially talk radio), it is common for an entire programme to be dedicated to a phone-in session. On television, phone-in's are often part of a wider discussion programme: a current example in the UK is the "Jeremy Vine" TV show. The concept dates to the early radio era: a December 1924 BBC 5NG Nottingham phone-in programme is described in a 1925 Radio Times article: "listeners ... enjoyed the novelty of hearing their own voices taking part". ''Any Questions?'' is a British topical discussion programme "in which a panel of personalities from the worlds of politics, media, and elsewhere are posed questions by the audience". It is typically broadcast on BBC Radio 4 on Fridays at 20:00 and repeated the following day at 13:10. ''Any Questions?'' is also available on BBC Sounds. Origins and scheduling ''Any Questions?'' was first broadcast in October 1948, beginning as a fortnightly programme on the West of England Home Service and was originally intended to run for six editions only. Freddie Grisewood
Frederick Henry Grisewood OBE (11 April 1888 – 15 November 1972) was a British broadcaster, who had a long and varied career with the BBC. He was perhaps best known for being the host of ''Any Questions?'' from its inception in 1948 until 1968. Biography Grisewood was born in Daylesford, Gloucestershire. He was educated at Radley College, and later at Magdalen College, University of Oxford. He served with the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry during World War I, eventually rising to the rank of lieutenant. He first worked for the BBC as an announcer in 1929. In 1932, the ''Daily Express'' published his name, along with those of several of his fellow announcers; before that date the BBC had required them to maintain on-air anonymity. Jonathan Dimbleby
Jonathan Dimbleby (born 31 July 1944) is a British presenter of current affairs and political radio and television programmes, author and historian. He is the son of Richard Dimbleby and younger brother of television presenter David Dimbleby. Education Dimbleby was educated at Charterhouse, a boys' independent school in Surrey. He later studied farm management at the Royal Agricultural College and graduated in 1965. He then studied philosophy at University College, London. He was later elected an honorary fellow but resigned in 2015 in protest at the forced resignation of Tim Hunt as an honorary fellow. In July 2007 he received an honorary degree from the University of Exeter. BBC Cymru Wales New Broadcasting House, previously known as the BBC Cymru Wales headquarters building, is the headquarters of BBC Cymru Wales in Central Square, Cardiff. It operates many of its broadcasting services (radio and TV) from there using IP-based studios. It also serves as a base for S4C. The £120 million building replaced the BBC Cymru Wales Broadcasting House, Cardiff, Broadcasting House in Llandaff, when 1,000 production and support staff began moving into the new facility in October 2019.
