Anuradha Vikram
Anuradha Vikram is an art critic, curator, author, and lecturer based in Los Angeles, California. She is the artistic director of 18th Street Arts Center, Santa Monica, and a senior lecturer at Otis College of Art and Design, Los Angeles. She has contributed to numerous publications, and has a published book called ''Decolonizing Culture: Essays on the Intersection of Art and Politics''. Early life and education Growing up in Westchester County, New York, Anuradha Vikram began being involved in making art during high school. In 1997 she completed a B.S. Studio Art, minor in Art History, at New York University. She went on in 1999 until 2002, to manage the studios for artists Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen. She moved to California, working at Nikolas Weinstein's glass studio in the San Francisco Bay Area. Art Critic
An art critic is a person who is specialized in analyzing, interpreting, and evaluating art. Their written critiques or reviews contribute to art criticism and they are published in newspapers, magazines, books, exhibition brochures, and catalogues and on websites. Some of today's art critics use art blogs and other online platforms in order to connect with a wider audience and expand debate about art. Differently from art history, there is not an institutionalized training for art critics (with only few exceptions); art critics come from different backgrounds and they may or may not be university trained. Professional art critics are expected to have a keen eye for art and a thorough knowledge of art history. ''Art Practical'' is an online arts magazine based in San Francisco producing arts criticism, essays, quarterly issues, and programming related to contemporary art and visual culture in the Bay Area and beyond. History The magazine was established in 2009 by Patricia Maloney, who served as director and editor-in-chief until 2015. In 2013, the publication acquired and incorporated the events website Happenstand and the arts publication ''Daily Serving'', which maintained its independent site with Maloney as director. Sonya Rapoport (October 6, 1923 – June 1, 2015) was an American conceptual, feminist, and New media artist. She began her career as a painter, and later became best known for computer-mediated interactive installations and participatory web-based artworks. Mills College Art Museum
Mills College Art Museum is a museum and art gallery in Oakland, California. The originally all-girls' school Mills College was founded by Susan and Cyrus Mills, who were both interested in art and history. Susan's sister Jane Tolman was an art historian who developed the art history curriculum in 1875. With a Tolman Mills bequest the present museum building was constructed in 1925 called the Mills College Art Gallery. Albert M. Bender, the Mills College Trustee chiefly responsible for the museum's completion, also made a gift of 40 paintings and 75 prints by contemporary San Francisco Bay Area artists, and since then the gallery has become an important public collection of modern art in Northern California. Craft Contemporary, formerly the Craft and Folk Art Museum, is a non-profit, non-collecting arts museum dedicated to showcasing contemporary craft in Los Angeles, California.
