António Mascarenhas (writer)
António Mascarenhas (24 February 1916 – 1993) was an Indian writer best known as the author of the book ''Goa from Prehistoric Times'' (1987). He wrote in the English language. Life António Mascarenhas was born at his mother's ancestral home in Divar, Goa, India, on 24 February 1916. He was baptized as Antonio Inacio Salvador Matias Mascarenhas and spent his early childhood in Zanzibar and his school years at St. Paul's School, Belgaum, after which he joined the Society of Jesus. He completed the Gregorian University Ph L ''summa cum laude''. Although he remained a layman, later marrying and raising a family, he was philosophically a Jesuit. His work took him between India and Portugal and among teaching, real estate, radio, travel planning and writing. He died in 1993 at home in Miraton Gardens, Chicalim, Goa, and was buried on the Jesuit feast day. Works Among his known works are the following. Konkani Language
Konkani () is an Indo-Aryan language spoken by the Konkani people, primarily in the Konkan region, along the western coast of India. It is one of the 22 scheduled languages mentioned in the Indian Constitution, and the official language of the Indian state of Goa. It is a minority language in Karnataka, Maharashtra, Kerala, Gujarat & Damaon, Diu & Silvassa. Konkani is a member of the Southern Indo-Aryan language group. It retains elements of Vedic structures and shows similarities with both Western and Eastern Indo-Aryan languages. The first Konkani inscription is dated 1187 A.D. Sancoale
Sancoale is a census town in South Goa district in the Indian state of Goa. It falls within the Sub-District of Mormugão and the Velhas Conquistas region. It is famous for being the hometown of Joseph Vaz, the patron saint of Sri Lanka. It was built by Jesuit missionaries who arrived at Sancoale in 1560 to settle there. By way of commemorating, their occupation they established the a chapel of Nossa Senhora de Saúde. The construction of the chapel was completed in 1566 and it was elevated to the level of a church in.
