António Correia (admiral)
António Correia (c. 1487 – 1566) was a Portuguese commander who in 1521 conquered Bahrain, beginning eighty years of Portuguese rule in the Persian Gulf. Correia was the son of merchant and explorer Airés Correia, who had gained notoriety during the Portuguese bombardment of Calicut a generation earlier. Like his father, António Correia sought adventure and political intrigue in Portugal’s expanding empire in the Indian Ocean. In the early 15th century, the territory of Bahrain covered both the present day state and Qatif in Eastern Arabia, and was ruled by King Muqrin ibn Zamil, one of three Jabrid brothers who controlled the eastern seaboard of the Gulf. King Muqrin was the nominal vassal of the Portuguese vassals, the Huwala Kingdom of Hormuz, to whom Muqrin paid tribute from the lucrative pearl fisheries that had made Bahrain prosperous. António Correia (Angolan Footballer)
Antonio "Kito" Correia (born 22 October 1983) is an Angolan football striker who last played for Ajax Cape Town. Career Correia left Angola and the civil war for the Netherlands and tried to make a career in SC Heerenveen. His family members had been killed in the war. He debuted in the Eredivisie in April 2003, when he came in as a substitute for Georgios Samaras. Just after his debut season, he was approached by an agent who told that Benfica was keen to sign him. He was sure that the move was real and didn't show up in Heerenveen for a while. His Dutch club decided to end his contract. Benfica didn't sign him and he had to go to play in a lower league for FC Emmen. António Correia de Oliveira (1879-1960) was a Portuguese poet. According to the Nomination Database for the Nobel Prize in Literature he was nominated 15 times without being awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature. Life António Correia de Oliveira was born in São Pedro do Sul, in the district of Viseu, in 1879. He studied at the Seminary of Viseu, then went to Lisbon, where he worked briefly as a journalist at the ''Illustrated Diary''. He published his first work at the age of 16, ''Ladainha'' in 1897. He was a companion of Raul Brandão and was influenced by Antero de Quental and Guerra Junqueiro. In 1912, having married, he settled in the parish of Antas, municipality of Esposende, going to live for the Quinta do Belinho. António Jesus Correia, ComIH (3 April 1924 – 30 November 2003) was a Portuguese football and roller hockey (quad) player, competing as a forward in the former sport and amassing Primeira Liga totals of 159 games and 128 goals over the course of 11 seasons, mainly with Sporting CP.
