Antonio De Luca (bishop)
Antonio Maria De Luca (born 1 July 1956) is an Italian Catholic bishop and a member of the Redemptionist order. He currently serves as the Bishop of Teggiano-Policastro. Biography Antonio Maria De Luca was born on 1 July 1956 in the ''comune'' of Torre del Greco in Campania, Italy. Priestly ministry After profession his vows in the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer on 29 September 1973, De Luca took theology and philosophy courses with the Salesians of Castellammare di Stabia, then obtained a licentiate in moral theology from the San Luigi Papal Theological Seminary of Southern Italy. He was ordained a priest on 5 July 1981 at the Redemptorist church of Colle Sant'Angelo in Torre del Greco and held numerous positions in the Redemptorist order, working for the propagation of the mission abroad (in Madagascar and Argentina). Castellammare di Stabia (; nap, Castiellammare 'e Stabbia) is a ''comune'' in the Metropolitan City of Naples, Campania region, in southern Italy. It is situated on the Bay of Naples about southeast of Naples, on the route to Sorrento. History Castellammare di Stabia lies next to the ancient Roman city of Stabiae, which was destroyed by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79. The castle, of the city it takes its name from, was erected around the 9th century on a hill commanding the southern side of the Gulf of Naples. A vicar general (previously, archdeacon) is the principal deputy of the bishop of a diocese for the exercise of administrative authority and possesses the title of local ordinary. As vicar of the bishop, the vicar general exercises the bishop's Ordinary (church officer), ordinary executive (government), executive power over the entire diocese and, thus, is the highest official in a diocese or other particular church after the diocesan bishop or his equivalent in canon law.
