Antonio De Guill Y Gonzaga
Antonio de Guill y Gonzaga (died August 24, 1768) was a Spanish colonial administrator who served as Royal Governor of Panama and Royal Governor of Chile. Arauco War Governor Guill y Gonzaga celebrated the " Parliament of Nacimiento" with the Mapuches in 1764, where he tried to impose his scheme to make them live in towns. This provoked the Mapuche uprising of 1766 under the command of the toqui Curiñancu, which lasted until Agustín de Jáuregui made a peace in 1774. In addition he was ordered to carry out the expulsion of the Jesuits on August 27, 1767, from Chile. During his government, he declared Talcahuano as a “Port of registry". In 1765 he founded the Villa San Luis Gonzaga de Rere and Tucapel Nuevo, the following year San Carlos de Yumbel was founded, all of them in the region of Concepcion. Royal Governor Of Panama
The Royal Governor of Panama ruled over the Spanish colonial administrative district known first as the colony of Darién and later as the colony of Castilla de Oro (part of Spanish colony of Peru), which in 1529 was renamed Panamá. This district was subordinated to the Viceroyalty of New Granada on August 20, 1739. Suppression Of The Society Of Jesus
The suppression of the Jesuits was the removal of all members of the Society of Jesus from most of the countries of Western Europe and their colonies beginning in 1759, and the abolishment of the order by the Holy See in 1773. The Jesuits were serially expelled from the Portuguese Empire (1759), France (1764), the Two Sicilies, Malta, Parma, the Spanish Empire (1767) and Austria, and Hungary (1782). This timeline was influenced by political manoeuvrings both in Rome and within each country involved. Arauco War
The Arauco War was a long-running conflict between colonial Spaniards and the Mapuche people, mostly fought in the Araucanía. The conflict began at first as a reaction to the Spanish conquerors attempting to establish cities and force Mapuches into servitude. It subsequently evolved over time into phases comprising drawn-out sieges, slave-hunting expeditions, pillaging raids, punitive expeditions, and renewed Spanish attempts to secure lost territories. Abduction of women and war rape was common on both sides. After many initial Spanish successes in penetrating Mapuche territory, the Battle of Curalaba in 1598 and the following destruction of the Seven Cities marked a turning point in the war leading to the establishment of a clear frontier between the Spanish domains and the land of the independent Mapuche. San Carlos De Ancud
Ancud () is a city in southern Chile located in the northernmost part of the island and province of Chiloé, in Los Lagos Region. It is the second largest city of Chiloé Archipelago after Castro. Chonchi is a Chilean town and commune located in Los Lagos Region. Chiloé Island ( es, Isla de Chiloé, , ) also known as Greater Island of Chiloé (''Isla Grande de Chiloé''), is the largest island of the Chiloé Archipelago off the west coast of Chile, in the Pacific Ocean. Yumbel is a List of cities in Chile, city and Communes of Chile, commune of the Bío Bío Province, Province of Bío Bío in the Region of Biobio, region of the same name, Chile. History Yumbel originated from the small fort of ''San Felipe de Austria'', raised in 1585 by Royal Governor of Chile, Governor Alonso de Sotomayor, on the cerro del Centinela (Hill of the Sentinel).
