Antonio Aloisio
Antonio Aloisio (November 11, 1898 – January 28, 1977) was a politician from Alberta, Canada. He served in the Legislative Assembly of Alberta from 1952 to 1955 and again from 1959 to 1971 as a member of the Social Credit caucus. Political career Aloisio first ran for a seat to the Alberta Legislature as a Social Credit candidate in the 1952 general election. He won a comfortable majority to hold the Athabasca electoral district for his party. He ran for a second term in the 1955 general election and was defeated by Liberal candidate Richard Hall. He led on the first count but was defeated on second choice preferences. He regained the seat for Social Credit in the 1959 election, defeating Hall by a large majority. 1967 Alberta General Election
The 1967 Alberta general election was held on May 23, 1967, to elect members of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta to the 16th Alberta Legislature. The election was called after the 15th Alberta Legislature was prorogued on April 11, 1967, and dissolved on April 14, 1967. Ernest C. Manning led the Social Credit Party to its ninth consecutive majority government, winning 55 of the 65 seats in the legislature, despite getting less than 45 per cent of the popular vote. Although it was not apparent at the time, this proved to be an ominous sign for the party. The 1967 election was the first time the Social Credit government had won less than half the popular vote since 1955. Dave Hunter (politician)
David Bruce Hunter (September 12, 1913 – January 12, 1985) was an Alberta politician. He served as a mayor and as leader of the Alberta Liberal Party from 1962 to 1964. Early life David Bruce Hunter was born in Elnora, Alberta in 1913. He served with the Royal Canadian Airforce in World War II as a Squadron Leader. In addition to his career in politics, he established and operated Hunter Motors Ltd. in Athabasca, now a third-generation family-owned GM dealership. Political career Hunter served as mayor of the town of Athabasca, Alberta for five years and served as a councilor for another six years. The Alberta Liberal Party (french: Parti libéral de l'Alberta) is a provincial political party in Alberta, Canada. 1963 Alberta General Election
The 1963 Alberta general election was held on June 17, 1963, to elect members of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta. The Social Credit Party, led by Ernest C. Manning, won its eighth consecutive term in government, winning roughly the same number of seats in the legislature and share of popular vote that it had in the 1959 election. Some Social Credit supporters were so confident of their party's chances that they talked of winning "63 in '63", i.e., all 63 seats in the legislature in the 1963 election. They fell short of this goal, but still had an overwhelming majority, reducing the opposition to only three MLAs in total. 1955 Alberta General Election
The 1955 Alberta general election was held on June 29, 1955, to elect members of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta. Despite losing almost 10% of the popular vote (compared to its 1952 proportion of the vote) and 30% of its seats in the legislature, the Social Credit Party, led by Ernest C. Manning, received a slightly higher number of votes than in 1952 and won a comfortable majority for its sixth term in government. The Liberal Party emerged as the principal opposition to the Social Credit juggernaut, winning over 30% of the popular vote, and increasing its legislative caucus from 4 members to 15. Athabasca was a provincial electoral district in Alberta, Canada, mandated to return a single member to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta from 1905 to 1986. The 1952 Alberta general election was held on August 5, 1952, to elect members of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta. Ernest C. Manning in his third election as leader of the Social Credit Party, and its first election since the Social Credit Party paid off Alberta's first debt in 1949, led it to its fifth consecutive election victory, increasing its share of the popular vote, and winning fifty two of the sixty one seats in the legislature. The Legislative Assembly of Alberta is the deliberative assembly of the province of Alberta, Canada. It sits in the Alberta Legislature Building in Edmonton.
