Antonino Bonaccorsi
Antonino Bonaccorsi also called ''il Chiaro'' (June 1826, in Acireale, Sicily – 1897) was an Italian people, Italian painter. Galleria Zelantea notes on arts in Acireale. Biography He was born to a doctor, and studied in Catania under Giuseppe Gandolfi, a prominent portrait artist in Catania. At the age of 19 years he travelled to Rome, where he worked under Natale Carta and Francesco Coghetti. At the Academy of San Luca, which he attended, he was awarded a number of prizes. He was able to travel to Paris frequently. He was caught up in the Roman uprising of 1848–49 and aided in the defense of the brief Roman Republic (19th century), Roman Republic. Acireale
Acireale (; scn, Jaciriali, locally shortened to ''Jaci'' or ''Aci'') is a coastal city and ''comune'' in the north-east of the Metropolitan City of Catania, Sicily, southern Italy, at the foot of Mount Etna, on the coast facing the Ionian Sea. It is home to numerous churches, including the Neo-Gothic St. Pietro's Basilica, St. Sebastiano's Basilica in the Sicilian Baroque style, and the 17th century Acireale Cathedral, and a seminary, for the training of priests. Riposto
Riposto ( scn, Ripostu) is a ''comune'' (municipality) in the Catania area of southern Italy. The small seafront town is located about southeast of Palermo and about north of Catania. History Riposto is both historically and literally connected to Mascali, a once fiefdom of which it had been apart of as its commercial port in the 16th century and until it had finally gained local autonomy from in the 18th century. In the early 19th century, the town would be administratively merged with Giarre and become Giarre-Riposto by Fascist Italy. It was not until 1945 would the two towns be administratively divided once again, following the end of World War II. Pinacoteca Dell’Accademia Degli Zelanti
The Pinacoteca Zelantea is the main art gallery located on Via Marchese di S. Giuliano #17 in the town of Acireale, Sicily. The art gallery and affiliated library are housed in the Neoclassical palace designed by Mariano Panebianco in the late 19th-century. The art gallery is part of an institute that comprises a library, and a society of scholars. The present institution is the modern expression of entities dating as far back as the 1650s, when a group of ecclesiastical men began meetings of an ''Accademia degli Zelanti''. The initial art collection dates to the donation in the 1850s, by Mariano Leonardi Gambino, of his family's collection of painting, engravings, and sculptures, including many works by local artists.
