Antoni Dyboski
Antoni Dyboski, born as Antoni Dybka (5 June 1853 – 23 February 1917) was a Polish lawyer and activist. Early life and lawyer's career He was born in Racławice near Nisko as a son of peasant. He finished the ''gimnazjum'' in Rzeszów and graduated in law at the University of Lwów. In 1881, Dybka settled in Cieszyn. He was working in the notary office of Andrzej Cinciała, a prominent Polish activist in Cieszyn Silesia. In 1890, Dybka legally changed his name to Dyboski. After the death of Andrzej Kotula (d. 1891), another notary in Cieszyn, Dyboski became a notary substitute. In 1892, he became a notary. He ran his office in Cieszyn on the Stary Targ no. 141 (from 1892 to 1906) and on the Garncarska 3 (from 1906 to his death). Jerzy Ficowski
Jerzy Tadeusz Ficowski (; October 4, 1924 in Warsaw – May 9, 2006 in Warsaw) was a Polish poet, writer and translator (from Yiddish, Russian, Romani and Hungarian). Biography and works During the German occupation of Poland in World War II, Ficowski who lived in Włochy near Warsaw was a member of the Polish resistance. He was a member of the Home Army (Armia Krajowa, AK), was imprisoned in the infamous Pawiak and took part in the Warsaw Uprising of 1944. His codename was ''Wrak'' and he fought in Mokotów region. Following the Warsaw Uprising, Ficowski entered a camp with other survivors of the battle. After the war, Ficowski returned to Warsaw and enrolled at the university in order to study philosophy and sociology. There he published his first volume of poetry, ''Ołowiani żołnierze'' (The Tin Soldiers, 1948). Nisko
Nisko is a town in Nisko County, Subcarpathian Voivodeship, Poland on the San River, with a population of 15,534 inhabitants as of 2 June 2009. Together with neighbouring city of Stalowa Wola, Nisko creates a small agglomeration. Nisko has been situated in the Subcarpathian Voivodship since 1999. History Nisko was first mentioned in a document dated 15 April 1439, in which King Władysław III of Varna handed the villages of Nysky, Zaoszicze and Pyelaskowicze to a local nobleman. Furthermore, Nisko was also mentioned by Jan Długosz, in his work ''Liber beneficiorum dioecesis Cracoviensis''. The establishment of the village was probably the result of catastrophic Mongol Invasion of Poland, which decimated the population of Lesser Poland. Andrzej Kotula
Andrzej Kotula (10 February 1822 in Grodziszcz – 10 October 1891 in Cieszyn) was a Polish lawyer and activist from Cieszyn Silesia. He was son of Józef, peasant, and Maria. Kotula graduated from Protestant gymnasium in Cieszyn and philosophical high school in Pressburg. In 1848 he graduated in law from the University of Vienna, where he met Paweł Stalmach, with whom he later cooperated closely back in Cieszyn Silesia. In the same year Kotula together with Stalmach participated in Slavic Congress in Prague, where they were protesting against including Cieszyn Poles in the Czecho-Slovak section. In 1848-1891 he contributed to ''Tygodnik Cieszyński'' and ''Gwiazdka Cieszyńska'' magazines. Since 1853 he worked as an administration clerk in Ipolyság, Hungary. In 1857 he moved to Frysztat, where he worked as notary. In 1867 Kotula came back to Cieszyn, where he ran his notary office until his death. Cieszyn Silesia
Cieszyn Silesia, Těšín Silesia or Teschen Silesia ( pl, Śląsk Cieszyński ; cs, Těšínské Slezsko or ; german: Teschener Schlesien or ) is a historical region in south-eastern Silesia, centered on the towns of Cieszyn and Český Těšín and bisected by the Olza River. Since 1920 it has been divided between Poland and Czechoslovakia, and later the Czech Republic.
