Anton Tschudi
Anton Tschudi (12 April 1848 – 1914) was a Norwegian landowner. He was born in Tønsberg and was of Swiss descent. His father, Peter Tschudi (1812–1900) owned the farm Valløe in Sem outside Tønsberg city. His sister Clara was a well-known writer, and his brother Oscar was a judge. Tschudi was mostly active with buying and selling land in Aker, now a part of Oslo. In 1898 he bought the 400-acre farm Øvre Høybråten, which was parceled out in 1905. Solemskogen near Maridalsvannet was bought in 1897 and parceled out in 1903, in addition he parceled out Økern as well. Tschudi was also active in Bærum. In 1912 he bought Vestre Haslum, which soon was split in 360 lots and sold. The area was nicknamed Tschudimarka. Tschudi had a substantial effect on the suburbanization of Oslo, both its tempo and its character. This largely stems from his tendency to sell his lots cheaply, to laborers and craftsmen. Tønsberg
Tønsberg , historically Tunsberg, is a city and municipality in Vestfold og Telemark county, eastern Norway, located around south-southwest of Oslo on the western coast of the Oslofjord near its mouth onto the Skagerrak. The administrative centre of the municipality is the city of Tønsberg. The city is the most populous metropolis in the district of Vestfold with a population of 52,419 in 2019. The municipality has a population of 56,293 and covers an area of in 2020. Tønsberg also serves as the seat for the County Governor of Vestfold og Telemark. Haslum is a station on the Kolsås Line on the Oslo Metro. It is between Avløs and Gjønnes, from Stortinget The Storting ( no, Stortinget ) (lit. the Great Thing) is the supreme legislature of Norway, established in 1814 by the Constitution of Norway. ''Hvem er hvem?'' ( en, Who is Who?) was a Norwegian book series, presenting facts about notable persons from Norway. The first edition was issued in 1912, and the 14th edition came in 1994. Filipstad, Norway
Filipstad is a neighborhood in the Frogner borough in Oslo, Norway. It serves both as a major container port and ferry terminal for the city. The Oslo-Kiel ferry docks by the Hjortneskaia at Filipstad. History The neighborhood grew from a single property ''Philipsborg'', named after the pharmacist Philip Moth, around 1650. From 1805 the property belonged to the Heftye family. The villa at the site dates from 1864 and was initiated by banker Jørgen H. Heftye who commissioned the famous architect G. A. Uranienborg, Oslo
Uranienborg is a neighborhood in the borough of Frogner in Oslo, Norway. History Originally a rural area in the former municipality Aker, it was incorporated into the city of Christiania (later Oslo) in 1859. The property used to have a wonderful view, and it was therefore named after the famous observatory Uranienborg at the island of Ven. It received public transport with the Briskeby Line. From 1988 to 2004 it formed the borough ''Uranienborg-Majorstuen'' together with Majorstuen; in 2004 it was incorporated into Frogner borough. Frogner
Frogner is a residential and retail borough in the West End of Oslo, Norway, with a population of 59,269 as of 2020. In addition to the original Frogner, the borough incorporates Bygdøy, Uranienborg and Majorstuen. The borough is named after Frogner Manor, and includes Frogner Park. The borough has the highest real estate prices in Norway. Etymology The borough is named after the old Frogner Manor. The Norse form of the name was ''Fraunar'' (plural form), and is likely derived from the word ''frauð'' 'manure' — meaning 'fertilized fields'. (See also Frogn and Tøyen.) English-speaking foreigners may assume the word “Frogner” to be related to the English word frog but these words are not congnates. The word for “frog” in Norwegian is “frosk”.
