Antje Möldner-Schmidt
Antje Möldner-Schmidt (born 13 June 1984) is a retired German track and field athlete who specialised in middle distance running and the 3000 metres steeplechase. Biography Born in Potsdam-Babelsberg, Germany, she began training in athletics with her twin, Berit, but her sister quit the sport as a result of an injury. Möldner began her career as a 1500 metres runner and first competed internationally at the 2001 World Youth Championships and 2002 World Junior Championships. She broke into the European professional ranks in 2005: a personal best of 4:10.83 brought her sixth place at the 2005 European Athletics Indoor Championships. She improved further outdoors, recording 4:08.81 in Dessau, a time which made her the top ranked 1500 m German athlete that year. She also won the German national championships, both indoor and outdoors, and took the bronze at the 2005 European Athletics U23 Championships. The lists do differ according to whether a German athlete started at the time of preparation of the relevant records for the Association of Germany (DLV) or the German Democratic Republic (DVfL). In 2006 the DLV extended its list of records with a preamble: "According to present evidence the following list includes some record holders suspected of having violated anti-doping rules during their sporting career. The women's 3000 metres steeplechase at the 2008 Summer Olympics occurred on 15–17 August at the Beijing National Stadium, the first time this event had ever been held at the Olympics. Germany competed at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China, People's Republic of China. A total of 439 athletes were nominated to participate in the Games. The German Olympic Sports Confederation (german: Deutscher Olympischer Sportbund, ''DOSB'') nominated athletes on 29 May, 23 June and 15 July 2008. Reaching the qualification standard set by the relevant sport's international governing body did not automatically mean that the athlete was nominated for Beijing, as the DOSB had stricter qualification standards. An athlete needed to have a somewhat realistic chance for a top 12 position. An exception to this are the team events, as the number of competing teams is already very limited through the IOC standards, and a chance for a respective place is already given by the qualification. 2006 European Cup (athletics)
The 2006 Spar European Cup (the 27th) took place in Málaga, Spain and attracted over 2000 athletes from 49 countries. The mascot for the 2006 games was "Manolito" the Octopus, it was chosen from the drawings submitted in a contest aimed at Andalusian schoolchildren, the winner was Eva Simancas Rubio, aged 11 from ‘Julio Caro Baroja’. The top two teams for both men and women qualified for the 2006 IAAF World Cup. Dessau
Dessau is a town and former municipality in Germany at the confluence of the rivers Mulde and Elbe, in the '' Bundesland'' (Federal State) of Saxony-Anhalt. Since 1 July 2007, it has been part of the newly created municipality of Dessau-Roßlau. Population of Dessau proper: 67,747 (Dec. 2020). 2005 European Athletics Indoor Championships
The 2005 European Athletics Indoor Championships were held at the Palacio de Deportes in Madrid, the capital city of Spain, from Friday, 4 March to Sunday, 6 March 2005. This was the first edition to be held in an odd year since switching to the biennial format, so as not to occur in the same as the outdoor European Athletics Championships and also recently moved IAAF World Indoor Championships. To accommodate this change, there was a two-year gap since the previous edition. It also marked the last time that the 200 metres were contested at the event. Russia finished on top of the medal table with 17 medals including 9 gold and a clear lead over Sweden and France. The host nation Spain lost only to Russia on the number of medals but won only one gold and finished fifth overall.
