Anti-imperialism Solidarity Day
Anti-imperialism solidarity day is observed on 1 January every year in Bangladesh by Communist Party of Bangladesh, Workers Party of Bangladesh, Socialist Party of Bangladesh, and many other left leaning organizations. Background Bangladesh became an independent country on 1971 after the Bangladesh Liberation war. Students were a vital force in struggle and war of liberation— mainly they were the people who dreamed of building a free, equitable, secular society and they had sacrificed a lot for chanting the slogans for a free country and world in highly polarized world in that time. The Communist Party of Bangladesh ( bn, বাংলাদেশের কমিউনিস্ট পার্টি) is a Marxist–Leninist communist party in Bangladesh. History After the partitioning of India in 1947, during the 2nd Congress of the Communist Party of India in Calcutta, the delegates coming from regions within the newly founded state of Pakistan (which included what now constitutes Bangladesh) met on March 6, 1948 in a separate session and decided to form the Communist Party of Pakistan. Nepal Nag became the General Secretary of the party. The main strength and activity of the newly constituted Party was in the province of East Pakistan (what is now Bangladesh). The Workers Party of Bangladesh ( bn, বাংলাদেশের ওয়ার্কার্স পার্টি) is a communist party in Bangladesh. Rashed Khan Menon is the president of the Workers Party of Bangladesh and Anisur Rahman Mollik is the general secretary of the party. History WPB was founded in 1980 by the Bangladesh Communist Party (Leninist), Revolutionary Communist League, Majdur Party and another group. Amal Sen was the founding general secretary. In 1984 the party split in two factions, both using the name WPB. One group was led by Amal Sen and Nazrul Islam. The other was led by the current president of the party, Rashed Khan Menon. The Socialist Party of Bangladesh ( bn, বাংলাদেশের সমাজতান্ত্রিক দল, abbreviated 'বাসদ', 'BASAD', or 'SPB') is an anti-revisionist Marxist-Leninist communist party in Bangladesh. The party was founded by Comrade Khalequzzaman on 7 November 1980. In 2013 a group of members under the leadership of Mubinul Haider Chowdhury broke away from the party and formed the Socialist Party of Bangladesh (Marxist) over disagreement on recognition of the thought of Shibdas Ghosh and Ganajagaranmancha. Jatiya Press Club is the professional club for journalists of Bangladesh located in the capital Dhaka. The current president is Farida Yasmin and the General Secretary is Elias Khan. History The Jatiya Press Club was founded in 1954 as the East Pakistan Press Club. It was formed to be run by an elected committee guided by its rules and regulations. The Government of East Pakistan rented out a building at 18 Topkhana Road at a monthly rent of Tk 100 to be used as the press club headquarters. The building before 1947 was a residential house of Dhaka University and was once residence to physicist Satyendra Nath Bose. The first life member of the club was N. M.
