Antony Rowe
Antony Duncan Rowe (4 August 1924 – 5 December 2003), or Tony Rowe, was an English rower who competed for Great Britain at the 1948 Summer Olympics and won the Diamond Challenge Sculls at Henley Royal Regatta in 1950. He was later a printer during a period of great change and developed "a successful model for short-run printing". Early life Rowe was born at Cookham Dean, Berkshire the sixth of seven children of George Duncan Rowe and his wife Molly Allen. His father had founded the stockbroking firm Rowe & Pitman in 1895 and his mother was a violinist. He was educated at Eton College where he was captain of Boats and president of Pop. He left Eton during the Second World War and joined the Royal Navy Submarine Service straight from school. In 1944 he was posted to the Far East, where he took part in the Japanese surrender of Hong Kong (30 August 1945). Anthony Rowe (MP)
Anthony Rowe (after 1641 – 9 September 1704) was an English Whigs (British political party), Whig politician who sat in the House of Commons of England for several periods between 1689 and 1701. Biography Rowe was the son of Sir Thomas Rowe of Muswell Hill in Middlesex by his wife Anne Langton. He was a descendant of William Rowe (Lord Mayor of London), William Rowe and was a cousin of Thomas Roe. In the 1670s, Rowe became an associate of James Scott, 1st Duke of Monmouth and served as his adjutant during the Flanders Expedition (1678), Flanders campaign of 1678. In 1679 he was granted lease of a hearth tax tax farm for five years. He remained aligned to Monmouth and in 1683 he was publicly denied any association with the Rye House Plot. Rowe was briefly arrested during the Monmouth Rebellion in 1685, but was soon released, and in March 1688 he was granted a general pardon by James II of England, James II. Plymouth Raiders
The Plymouth Raiders was a professional basketball team based in Plymouth, England. The team competed in the British Basketball League, the country's premier basketball competition. The club was founded in 1983 through a merger between two local basketball clubs and went on to be the longest-serving and most successful team in Division 1 of the English Basketball League. Between 1996 and 2004, Plymouth Raiders won six different competitions, including three National Basketball League Play-off titles and the National Cup in 2004. After several years of dominating the EBL, in 2004 the Raiders moved up to the franchise-based British Basketball League, pitting themselves against the country's elite teams.
