Anthony Lakes (ski Area)
Anthony Lakes is a ski area in the northwest United States, located in northeastern Oregon in the Wallowa–Whitman National Forest west of North Powder. Near the cities of La Grande and Baker City, the resort has one triple chairlift and a vertical drop of . Its summit elevation is above sea level and the terrain is mostly of an intermediate and expert level. The resort also offers snowcat skiing on nearby peaks, and includes a boardercross course as well as a well maintained cross-country (Nordic) ski trails complete with its own Nordic center building. Several backcountry skiing opportunities exist in the nearby area, including Angell Basin. The ski area resides in the Elkhorn Range of eastern Oregon's Blue Mountains (unrelated to the same named range in southwestern Montana). Northwestern United States
The Northwestern United States, also known as the American Northwest or simply the Northwest, is an informal geographic region of the United States. The region consistently includes the states of Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana and Wyoming. Some sources include Southeast Alaska in the Northwest. The related but distinct term "Pacific Northwest" generally excludes areas from the Rockies eastward, whereas the term "Inland Northwest" excludes areas east of the Cascades. The Northwestern United States is a subportion of the Western United States (which is, itself, even more ambiguous). Elkhorn Mountains
The Elkhorn Mountains are a mountain range in southwestern Montana, part of the Rocky Mountains and are roughly 300,000 acres (1200 km²) in size. It is an inactive volcanic mountain range with the highest point being Crow Peak at , right next to Elkhorn Peak, . The range is surrounded by the cities of Helena, Montana City, Townsend, Whitehall, and Boulder and is part of the Helena National Forest in Montana's Jefferson County. Geology The rocks of the Elkhorns were formed about 74 to 81 million years ago (Late Cretaceous time) as a result of the Farallon tectonic plate subducting beneath western North America and allowing magma to rise to the surface. The Elkhorn Mountains Volcanics are extrusive rocks related to the plutonic granites of the Boulder Batholith. The Blue Mountains are a mountain range in the northwestern United States, located largely in northeastern Oregon and stretching into extreme southeastern Washington.
