Anthony Jolliffe
Sir Anthony Stuart Jolliffe (born 12 August 1938) was Lord Mayor of London from 1982 to 1983. He was appointed as a Deputy Lieutenant of the County of Dorset on 5 April 2006. This gave him the Post Nominal Letters "DL" for Life. In 2013, upon reaching the Mandatory retirement age of 75, he was transferred to the retired list. Two sheriffs are elected annually for the City of London by the Liverymen of the City livery companies. Today's sheriffs have only nominal duties, but the historical officeholders had important judicial responsibilities. The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is a British order of chivalry, rewarding contributions to the arts and sciences, work with charitable and welfare organisations, and public service outside the civil service. It was established on 4 June 1917 by King George V and comprises five classes across both civil and military divisions, the most senior two of which make the recipient either a knight if male or dame if female.
