Anthony Crawford (born June 29, 1981) is an American bassist, songwriter, producer, and recording artist from Memphis, Tennessee. He is best known for working with Chon, Allan Holdsworth, Justin Timberlake, Peabo Bryson, Howard Hewett, Shalamar, Kirk Whalum, Phil Perry, Glen Jones, and Karen Briggs. Crawford also played bass for the National Democratic Convention for Bill Clinton in 2000. Early life Anthony Crawford was born in Memphis, Tennessee, into a musical family including his father, drummer Hubert "H-Bomb" Crawford, and his uncle, Hank Crawford, a well-known saxophonist. Hubert Crawford played with many notable acts, including James Brown, The Bar-Kays, The Eric Gales Band, Mark Farner of " Grand Funk Railroad", and Ann Peebles. Anthony Crawford (born May 5, 1957) is an American multi-instrumentalist, singer and songwriter, who has worked with many well-known musicians in the studio, onstage and as a songwriter. Crawford has also released several solo albums in addition to two albums and a DVD with his wife, Savana Lee, as Sugarcane Jane. Although born in Birmingham, Nashville became Anthony's home, where he performed live at Opryland USA, toured with the Sonny James Band, and appeared on television’s Hee Haw and The Ralph Emery Show. He caught the eye of many in Nashville including Rounder Records and Little Dog Records. After traveling throughout the Southeast playing various string instruments, his opportunities expanded to include tours with Neil Young. In between tours with Young backing bands The Shocking Pinks, International Harvesters, and Electric Band, Anthony also toured with Steve Winwood, Dwight Yoakam, Vince Gill, the Pegi Young Band, Nicolette Larson and Blackhawk. Anthony Crawford (ca. 1865 – October 21, 1916) was an African American man who was killed by a lynch mob in Abbeville, South Carolina on October 21, 1916. Life Crawford was born early in the Reconstruction Era, c. 1865. After the Civil War, Crawford's father became the owner of a modest acreage of cotton fields on the Little River, about seven miles west of Abbeville, which he worked with his son. Anthony was an ambitious and literate child who routinely walked seven miles to the school in Abbeville. Crawford inherited the land on his father's death, which he increased by substantial land purchases in 1883, 1888, 1899 and 1903. In the mid or late 1890s, Crawford was co-founder of the Industrial Union of Abbeville County, which was devoted to the "material, moral and intellectual advance of the colored people".
