On March 31, 2021, Anthony Alvarez, a 22-year-old Hispanic and Latino Americans, Latino man, was shot and killed by a Chicago Police Department officer in the Portage Park, Chicago, Portage Park neighborhood on the Northwest Side of Chicago. Police body camera footage of Alvarez' death was released on April 28, showing Alvarez being shot in the back while fleeing from police with a firearm in his hand. The footage of Alvarez' death was the third high-profile release of footage showing police killing a young Latino in the month of April 2021, following Killing of Adam Toledo, Adam Toledo and Killing of Mario Gonzalez, Mario Gonzalez.
