Anshun Bus Crash
On 7 July 2020, a local bus in Anshun, Guizhou, in southwest China, made a sharp turn and crashed into the Hongshan Reservoir in Xixiu District. At least 21 people died and 16 others were injured. Among the passengers on the bus were candidates for the Gaokao examination. Crash Video footage of the accident shows the bus moving slowly on the road before making a sudden sharp left turn at approximately 12:17 p.m. The bus crossed six lanes of traffic, crashed through the road guardrail, and fell down the embankment into the Hongshan Reservoir. A survivor recalled the accident in a news interview: "When the bus just fell down to the river, the glass shattered, water poured in immediately. I swam out at the moment of impact." Zhao Kezhi (; born 28 December 1953) is a Chinese politician who currently serves as a State Councilor of the People’s Republic of China and the former Minister and Party Committee Secretary of the Ministry of Public Security, with the top police officer rank of Police Commissioner General. 2022 Guizhou Bus Crash
In the early morning of 18 September 2022, 27 people were killed and 20 injured in a bus crash in Sandu Shui Autonomous County, Qiannan Prefecture, Guizhou, People's Republic of China (PRC). The bus overturned on a hilly section of the highway that goes from Guiyang to Libo. The bus was transporting 47 people to a quarantine facility. The accident occurred at 2:40 a.m. A circulating unverified photo shows a passenger bus towed by a truck, with a completely crumpled top. Background China is a country with zero-COVID policies, where cities goes into a lockdown after a few positive cases. Local officials are responsible for controlling the virus and keeping outbreaks under control. The COVID-19 data of the day of the crash showed Guizhou had a spike in cases from 154 to 712 new confirmed cases the day before, being almost 70% of new COVID cases in China.
