John Ansell (pirate)
John Ansell (26 March 1874 – 14 December 1948) was a British composer of light classical music. Early life Born in London, he studied under Hamish MacCunn at the Guildhall School of Music and played violin and viola in various orchestras before being appointed musical director at the Playhouse Theatre in 1907. Career He became music director at the Alhambra Theatre in 1913, and later worked at other theatres including the Winter Garden Theatre. Steven A. Ansell (born February 5, 1954), is an American violist whose versatile career involves work as a chamber musician, solo artist, and orchestral musician. Ansell is currently principal violist with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, a position he has held since September 1996. Prior to his appointment, Ansell had already appeared with the orchestra as a guest soloist. Ansell also currently teaches at the Boston University College of Fine Arts and is a member of the Boston Symphony Chamber Players. Ansell is also a founding member of the Muir String Quartet. Rodney Ansell
Rodney William Ansell (1 October 1954 – 3 August 1999) was an Australian cattle grazier and a buffalo hunter. Described to be from "the bush", Ansell became famous in 1977 after he was stranded in extremely remote country in the Northern Territory, and the story of his survival for 56 days with limited supplies became news headlines around the world. Consequently, he served as the inspiration for Paul Hogan's character in the 1986 film ''Crocodile Dundee''. In 1999, he was killed in a shootout by policemen of the Northern Territory Police. Norah Marjorie Ansell (6 July 1906 –1990) was a British sculptor who worked mostly in wood, ivory and bronze. Biography Ansell was born in Wiltshire and took evening classes at the Birmingham College of Arts and Crafts and remained in that city for most of her career, living in the Edgbaston area. She produced statuettes and portrait busts in a variety of materials including bronze, wood and ivory. Nicolas Clive Ansell (born 2 February 1994) is an Australian professional football (soccer) player who plays as a centre back for Adelaide United in the A-League. Club career Ansell spent several years in the Melbourne Victory youth squad before a breakout 2012–13 season, which saw him rewarded with a senior A-League contract. Colonel Sir Michael Picton Ansell, CBE, DSO (26 March 1905 – 17 February 1994) was a soldier, show jumping rider, polo player, and horse show administrator. Early life Ansell was born on 26 March 1905 at the Curragh, County Kildare. His father George Ansell died in the First World War, while serving as a lieutenant colonel in the British Army. After attending St Michael's Westgate-in-Sea and Wellington he went to Royal Military College, Sandhurst. Military career In 1924 he was commissioned into the 5th Royal Inniskilling Dragoon Guards and in the 1930s was a cavalry officer, show jumping rider, and international polo player. Mary Ann Ansell, a housemaid, was hanged at St Albans Prison, England on 19 July 1899, for poisoning her sister Caroline, who was an inmate in an asylum. Her motive was asserted to be to obtain £11.5s from a life insurance policy which she had taken out on Caroline. She sent her a small piece of cake or pastry, like a flat jam sandwich, the middle of which was very yellow and contained phosphorus poison. Her sister had been an inmate at Leavesden Asylum in Abbots Langley. At 18 or 22 years old (reports differ), she was the youngest woman to be hanged in the UK in the 'modern era' (after the 1868 reform act, so non-public, and also by the 'long drop' method). Mary Ansell (1 March 1861 – 30 June 1950) was an English actress and author. She was born on 1 March 1861 in Paddington (London), the third child of George and Mary Ansell, who ran and lived over the King’s Head pub in Paddington. Jonathan Mark Ansell (born 10 March 1982) is an English singer, best known as the high tenor of the vocal group G4 (band), G4. Early life Influenced by his mother's tapes of Pavarotti and the Three Tenors, Ansell joined the West Sussex Boys' Choir conducted by Arthur Robson, at the age of eight.
