Ansel Watrous (November 1, 1835August 6, 1927) was an American newspaper editor and historian. Martin Frederick Ansel (December 12, 1850August 23, 1945) was the 89th governor of South Carolina from 1907 to 1911. Early life Born in Charleston, South Carolina, to John Ansel who was an immigrant from Württemberg in Germany and Fredrika Bowers, also a German immigrant, Martin grew up in the German "colony" of Walhalla, South Carolina. He was admitted to the bar in 1870, first practicing law in Franklin, North Carolina, for four years, then in Greenville, South Carolina, where he became involved in politics. He served in the state legislature between 1882 and 1888, then was elected solicitor in the eighth Judicial Circuit, where he stayed until 1901. Karen Ansel is a visual effects specialist in the United States. Previously an Australian musician, she was an influential member of the Australian band The Reels. In 2001, the title track " Quasimodo's Dream" from their album '' Quasimodo's Dream'' was voted one of the Top 10 Australian Songs of all time by APRA. Ansel worked in visual effects at Industrial Light & Magic in the United States. She supervised the Academy Award-winning effects in Vincent Ward’s film '' What Dreams May Come'', as well as '' Nutty Professor II: The Klumps'', '' Flubber'', and artist Matthew Barney's ''Cremaster Cycle''. Julius Ansel
Julius Ansel (March 27, 1908 – March 13, 1965) was an American politician who was a member of the Boston City Council from 1948 to 1951, the Massachusetts House of Representatives from 1953 to 1955 and again from 1959 to 1965, and the Massachusetts Senate in 1965. He was an unsuccessful candidate for Mayor of Boston in 1963. Ansel was born in Vilnius, Russian Empire, to Hyman Ansel, who worked as a grocer in Boston, and Bertha Ansel. He immigrated to the United States in 1910 and became a citizen in the 1920s. He left school after the eighth grade. He was wounded in France during World War II and was awarded the Bronze Star. Ansel died in Carney Hospital in Dorchester, aged 57, after suffering a heart attack. A much beloved figure in Boston, Ansel's death brought out thousands of people who mourned him at services at Congregation Agudath Israel in Dorchester and Levine Chapel in Brookline. He is best known for his invention of the Cronut, a croissant-donut hybrid that became a phenomenon. Edgar Ansel Mowrer (March 8, 1892 – March 2, 1977) was a Pulitzer Prize-winning American journalist and writer best known for his writings on international events. Life and career Born in Bloomington, Illinois to Rufus and Nellie née Scott, Mowrer graduated from the University of Michigan in 1913. From his elder brother, Paul Scott Mowrer, the editor of ''Chicago Daily News'', Mowrer received a job and in 1914 went to France as a foreign correspondent. Ansel Williamson
Ansel Williamson (1806-1881) was an American thoroughbred horse racing trainer and a member of the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame. He trained horses who won the Kentucky Derby, Travers Stakes, Belmont Stakes, Jerome Handicap, Phoenix Stakes and Withers Stakes. Williamson was born a slave in Virginia in 1806. His early horse racing experience came for owner Thornton Boykin Goldsby, where he notably trained champion horse Brown Dick to victories in top races in Atlanta, Mobile, New Orleans and Charleston. In 1864 he was purchased by Robert A. Alexander, owner of the famous Woodburn Stud near Midway, Kentucky. Taught the breeding and training of horses, after he was freed Williamson remained in Alexander's employ. Ansel Tracy Walling (January 10, 1824 – June 22, 1896) was an American lawyer and politician who served one term as a U.S. Representative from Ohio from 1875 to 1877. Early life and career Born in Otsego County, New York, Walling moved to Erie County, Pennsylvania, where he attended a local academy. He studied medicine and practiced a short time, and then learned the art of printing. He moved to Ohio in 1843 and engaged in newspaper work. Ansel Easton Adams (February 20, 1902 – April 22, 1984) was an American landscape photographer and environmentalist known for his black-and-white images of the American West. He helped found Group f/64, an association of photographers advocating "pure" photography which favored sharp focus and the use of the full tonal range of a photograph. He and Fred Archer developed an exacting system of image-making called the Zone System, a method of achieving a desired final print through a deeply technical understanding of how tonal range is recorded and developed during exposure, negative development, and printing.
