AnsaldoBreda P2250
The AnsaldoBreda P2550 is an articulated high-floor electric light rail vehicle manufactured by AnsaldoBreda (now Hitachi Rail Italy) for the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority's Metro Rail system. History In 2001, the LACMTA began seeking bids for a new order of light rail vehicles. Four companies submitted proposals; Bombardier, Kinki Sharyo, Siemens, and AnsaldoBreda. Siemens's proposal did not meet the LACMTA's requirements, and Bombardier declined to bid due to the terms of the contract. AnsaldoBreda's bid was lower than that of Kinki Sharyo, and as a result, on April 24, 2003, the LACMTA awarded a contract to AnsaldoBreda for the production of 50 new light rail vehicles. The first of these vehicles were delivered in 2005 and was first tested on the Blue Line before becoming exclusive to the Gold Line. Delivery of the vehicles was approximately three years behind schedule, and Metro claimed they were overweight; thus, the agency chose not to exe ...

Electric Multiple Units Of The United States
Electricity is the set of physical phenomena associated with the presence and motion of matter that has a property of electric charge. Electricity is related to magnetism, both being part of the phenomenon of electromagnetism, as described by Maxwell's equations. Various common phenomena are related to electricity, including lightning, static electricity, electric heating, electric discharges and many others. The presence of an electric charge, which can be either positive or negative, produces an electric field. The movement of electric charges is an electric current and produces a magnetic field. When a charge is placed in a location with a non-zero electric field, a force will act on it. The magnitude of this force is given by Coulomb's law. If the charge moves, the electric field would be doing work on the electric charge. Thus we can speak of electric potential at a certain point in space, which is equal to the work done by an external agent in carrying a unit of positiv ...

Light Rail In California
Light or visible light is electromagnetic radiation that can be perceived by the human eye. Visible light is usually defined as having wavelengths in the range of 400–700 nanometres (nm), corresponding to frequencies of 750–420 terahertz, between the infrared (with longer wavelengths) and the ultraviolet (with shorter wavelengths). In physics, the term "light" may refer more broadly to electromagnetic radiation of any wavelength, whether visible or not. In this sense, gamma rays, X-rays, microwaves and radio waves are also light. The primary properties of light are intensity, propagation direction, frequency or wavelength spectrum and polarization. Its speed in a vacuum, 299 792 458 metres a second (m/s), is one of the fundamental constants of nature. Like all types of electromagnetic radiation, visible light propagates by massless elementary particles called photons that represents the quanta of electromagnetic field, and can be analyzed as both waves and particl ...

Kinki Sharyo P3010
The Kinki Sharyo P3010 is an articulated light rail car used on the Los Angeles County Metro Rail system manufactured by Kinki Sharyo, operated on all of the Metro Rail light rail lines. History of the contract AnsaldoBreda delivered 50 P2550 LRVs to Metro between 2006 and 2011 for use on the newly expanded Gold Line. Delivery of the vehicles was approximately three years behind schedule, and Metro claimed they were overweight; thus, the agency chose not to exercise their option to purchase more beyond this initially contracted order. However, with multiple light rail lines under construction or in planning and the P865s approaching their end of life, Metro anticipated a substantial need for LRVs and thus requested bids for a new contract, for vehicles which were dubbed the P3010 series. The base P3010 contract order was for 78 cars: 63 cars for the Expo and Blue lines, and 15 cars for the Gold Line Foothill Extension. (Phase 1 of the Expo Line used P865 cars from the exi ...

Siemens P2000
The P2000 is an articulated light rail car used on the Los Angeles County Metro Rail system. It was manufactured by Siemens Mobility and is used on Metro's A and C lines. It was previously used on the L Line between 2003 and 2012. The trains feature automatic train control, automatic train operation for C Line service, air conditioning, emergency intercoms, wheelchair spaces and emergency braking. In June 2013, Metro awarded a fixed price contract to PAMCO Machine Works in Monrovia, California, to overhaul the powered axle assemblies for the then eleven year old P2000's. Since 2020, some units have been taken out of service for refurbishment by Alstom. Nippon Sharyo P865
The P865 and P2020 were articulated light rail vehicles used on the Los Angeles County Metro Rail system. They were manufactured by Nippon Sharyo and used on Metro's A Line, C Line (P2020), and E Line. The trains featured air conditioning, emergency intercoms, wheelchair spaces and automated announcements. They are of an air-electric design, with air powered doors, friction brakes, and a pantograph. Operational history The P865s were the first urban rail vehicles to run in Los Angeles County since the Pacific Electric Railway ceased operations in 1965 as the first cars were delivered in May 1989. The original 54 railcars, numbered 100–153, were ordered at a cost of $1.17 million each. Prior to entering service, all of the railcars were christened after various cities in Los Angeles County; it was in the same style as christening a ship before being launched. Examples include ''Long Beach'' (Car 100) and ''Bell'' (Car 105). Nippon Sharyo P2020 The P2020 was the newer ...

Regional Connector
The Regional Connector Transit Project is a transit project currently constructing a light rail tunnel for the Los Angeles Metro Rail system in Downtown Los Angeles. It is designed to connect the A Line and E Line, which currently end at 7th Street/Metro Center station, to the existing L Line and Union Station. When completed, the project will provide a one-seat ride into the core of Downtown for passengers on those lines who currently need to transfer, and it will reduce or eliminate transfers for many passengers traveling across the region via Downtown. The project is being implemented by the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro). It has been given high priority by Metro in its long-range plan and has funding set aside in Measure R. The draft environmental impact statement was completed in September 2010, selection of a preferred alternative was completed in late October 2010, and the Final Environmental Impact Report was certified on April 26, 2 ...
