Anong Beam
Anong Beam is an Ojibwe artist and curator from M'Chigeeng First Nation, Ontario. Early life and education Born Anong Migwans Beam, Beam is the daughter of award winning Indigenous artist Carl Beam and feminist artist Ann Elena Weatherby. In 1998 Beam attended the visual arts program School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. This was followed by Beam attending the Ontario College of Art and Design from 1999-2000 and the Institute of American Indian Arts in 2001. Beam is currently a Masters student at York University. Career Beam's artistic work is influenced by her sense of place and many of her paintings are connected to her home on Manitoulin Island. In addition to her artistic work Beam has been actively involved in her local community and is well known for her curatorial work. Ojibwe People
The Ojibwe, Ojibwa, Chippewa, or Saulteaux are an Anishinaabe people in what is currently southern Canada, the northern Midwestern United States, and Northern Plains. According to the U.S. census, in the United States Ojibwe people are one of the largest tribal populations among Native American peoples. In Canada, they are the second-largest First Nations population, surpassed only by the Cree. They are one of the most numerous Indigenous Peoples north of the Rio Grande.
