Anoka High School
Anoka High School is a four-year public high school located in Anoka, Minnesota, United States. It serves grades 9– 12 for the Anoka-Hennepin School District 11. History The first Anoka High School was opened in 1904 and located in downtown Anoka. The second Anoka High School was opened in 1955, a few blocks southeast of downtown Anoka, with the old location becoming Sandburg Middle School. The current building opened in 1971, and the old high school became Fred Moore Junior High School (later Fred Moore Middle School, and now Anoka Middle School for The Arts). Anoka High School is one of the oldest and one of the largest high schools in the state of Minnesota. From the forming of the Anoka-Hennepin School District 11 in 1920, until the opening of Coon Rapids High School in 1963, all district students attended High School in Anoka. Abigail Whelan (born January 13, 1988) is an American politician from Minnesota and former member of the Minnesota House of Representatives. Briana Collette Scurry (born September 7, 1971) is an American retired soccer goalkeeper, and assistant coach of the Washington Spirit . Scurry was the starting goalkeeper for the United States women's national soccer team at the 1995 World Cup (3rd place), 1996 Summer Olympics (gold medal), 1999 World Cup (champions), 2003 World Cup (3rd place), and the 2004 Summer Olympic Games (gold medal). She played in the semi-final and playoff for third place in the 2007 Women's World Cup (3rd place). Brandon Paulson
Brandon Douglas Paulson (born October 22, 1973) is a former Olympic Greco-Roman wrestler and current wrestling coach. Paulson was born in Coon Rapids, Minnesota, and is a 1992 graduate of Anoka High School. At Anoka High, Paulson was a three time state champion in his weight class and was named Mr. Minnesota Wrestling in his senior year after finishing with a career record of 155-12-1. Paulson was the first high school wrestler to earn a spot on the U.S. National Senior team when he qualified for the 1991–1992 team. In 1993 he was a Junior World Silver Medalist. Overall, he earned 16 national titles in Greco-Roman and Freestyle wrestling, and was a 1996 Olympic silver medalist in the 114.5 lbs weight class in Greco-Roman wrestling. Mark Nenow
Mark Nenow (born November 16, 1957) is a retired long-distance runner from the United States. He ran an American record in the 10,000 meters, with a result of 27 minutes, 20.56 seconds in Brussels, Belgium on September 5, 1986; it stood as a national record until May 4, 2001. Running career Nenow attended Anoka High School in Minnesota. Although he did not take up running until his upper-class years in high school, he graduated from Anoka with personal-best times of 4:22 in the mile and 9:17 in the 2-mile. He subsequently attended and ran with University of Kentucky, with whom he competed in cross country and track and field. He spent much of his time in Kentucky following a high-mileage protocol, often running 140 miles per week. Steven Lee Nelson (born April 26, 1951) is an American former professional football player and high school coach. He played as a linebacker for the New England Patriots of the National Football League (NFL) from 1974 to 1987. He served as the head coach at Curry College in Milton, Massachusetts from 1998 to 2005, compiling a record of 64–22. Nelson was a three-sport athlete at Anoka High School, in Anoka, Minnesota, earning letters in football, basketball and baseball. ''A Prairie Home Companion'' is a weekly radio variety show created and hosted by Garrison Keillor that aired live from 1974 to 2016.
