Annihilator (ring Theory)
In mathematics, the annihilator of a subset of a module over a ring is the ideal formed by the elements of the ring that give always zero when multiplied by an element of . Over an integral domain, a module that has a nonzero annihilator is a torsion module, and a finitely generated torsion module has a nonzero annihilator. The above definition applies also in the case noncommutative rings, where the left annihilator of a left module is a left ideal, and the right-annihilator, of a right module is a right ideal. Definitions Let ''R'' be a ring, and let ''M'' be a left ''R''-module. Choose a non-empty subset ''S'' of ''M''. The annihilator of ''S'', denoted Ann''R''(''S''), is the set of all elements ''r'' in ''R'' such that, for all ''s'' in ''S'', . In set notation, :\mathrm_R(S)=\ It is the set of all elements of ''R'' that "annihilate" ''S'' (the elements for which ''S'' is a torsion set). Subsets of right modules may be used as well, after the modification of "" in ...

Annihilator (linear Algebra)
In mathematics, any vector space ''V'' has a corresponding dual vector space (or just dual space for short) consisting of all linear forms on ''V'', together with the vector space structure of pointwise addition and scalar multiplication by constants. The dual space as defined above is defined for all vector spaces, and to avoid ambiguity may also be called the . When defined for a topological vector space, there is a subspace of the dual space, corresponding to continuous linear functionals, called the ''continuous dual space''. Dual vector spaces find application in many branches of mathematics that use vector spaces, such as in tensor analysis with finite-dimensional vector spaces. When applied to vector spaces of functions (which are typically infinite-dimensional), dual spaces are used to describe measures, distributions, and Hilbert spaces. Consequently, the dual space is an important concept in functional analysis. Early terms for ''dual'' include ''polarer Raum'' ahn 19 ...

Annihilator Method
In mathematics, the annihilator method is a procedure used to find a particular solution to certain types of non-homogeneous ordinary differential equations (ODE's). It is similar to the method of undetermined coefficients, but instead of guessing the particular solution in the method of undetermined coefficients, the particular solution is determined systematically in this technique. The phrase ''undetermined coefficients'' can also be used to refer to the step in the annihilator method in which the coefficients are calculated. The annihilator method is used as follows. Given the ODE P(D)y=f(x), find another differential operator A(D) such that A(D)f(x) = 0. This operator is called the annihilator, hence the name of the method. Applying A(D) to both sides of the ODE gives a homogeneous ODE \big(A(D)P(D)\big)y = 0 for which we find a solution basis \ as before. Then the original inhomogeneous ODE is used to construct a system of equations restricting the coefficients of the line ...

Annihilator Matrix
In statistics, the projection matrix (\mathbf), sometimes also called the influence matrix or hat matrix (\mathbf), maps the vector of response variable, response values (dependent variable values) to the vector of fitted values (or predicted values). It describes the influence function (statistics), influence each response value has on each fitted value. The diagonal elements of the projection matrix are the leverage (statistics), leverages, which describe the influence each response value has on the fitted value for that same observation. Definition If the vector of Response variable, response values is denoted by \mathbf and the vector of fitted values by \mathbf, :\mathbf = \mathbf \mathbf. As \mathbf is usually pronounced "y-hat", the projection matrix \mathbf is also named ''hat matrix'' as it "puts a circumflex, hat on \mathbf". The element in the ''i''th row and ''j''th column of \mathbf is equal to the covariance between the ''j''th response value and the ''i''th fitted v ...

Annihilator (band)
Annihilator is a Canadian thrash metal band founded in Ottawa in 1984. It is the highest-selling Canadian thrash metal group in history, having sold more than three million albums worldwide, although most sales have been generated outside of Canada. Along with Sacrifice, Voivod and Razor, Annihilator is known as one of the "big four" of Canadian thrash metal. They are also considered to be part of the "second wave" of thrash metal bands from the late 1980s and early 1990s. Annihilator has released seventeen studio albums and undergone many line-up changes. Waters is the only remaining original member, and assembles touring or session musicians to perform with him. Annihilator's first two studio albums, ''Alice in Hell'' (1989) and ''Never, Neverland'' (1990), are considered to be influential Canadian heavy metal records. Many of their later albums — including their third, and only major-label album '' Set the World on Fire'' (1993) — also received praise from critics, and ...
